We're getting Pochettino without doubt. Ideal whipping boy if it goes wrong. Bargain buy if it goes right. Nothing changes at our club.
If Levy has stuck with Sherwood, we would have had a revolt in the dressing room. Ergo, he had to go.
I agree really. He lost key players. So it was Tim or them. No brainer in many ways Just playing devil's advocate in saying that there is no guarantee that Poch or FDB will outperform Tim, or just prove another sackable AVB. I don't think they will be the latter, but there's no telling as I can't personally say I've seen a lot of Ajax or Southampton to be honest.
Pochettino will be Levy,s man . Not a proved winner, a manager who will put less pressure on Levy , to buy and keep our best players .For him like a player a chance to prove himself under the shackles he will be under for that top job in the future, A proven manager will go tits up very quickly as ENICs restrictions will kick in . Being honest a top manager, will not come as he has little chance of success under our current regime. One good thing he plays decent football . An Ok but underwhelming appointment typical Spurs (He must be cheap)
I thought part of the reason Poch was considering leaving Southampton anyway was precisely because they are being threatened with bids for Shaw, Lallana etc. and it looks like they can't stop the sales. If he runs into the same issues with us, which past form absolutely suggests he will, then I give him 2 years tops before he gets pissed off at the club hierarchy.
Normally we sell one player against our will every season or two but this Southampton squad looks like it's going to be torn to shreds. I don't really mind who we get in so long as it's not someone like Benitez, who plays dull football and is a prat. I think Pochettino and FDB are both exciting options, they might not get us straight into the top 4 but I think they'll get us playing good football and that's what I care about most.
The damage was done to the squad and our season long before Tim took charge. Nobody really expected him to get us Champions League,. nobody expected him to win the Europa thing-gy either. Along with some 'not so good' results, he has had 'some very good ones' and to be fair to him, he inherited a dysfunctional squad. The overall result(s) of this season could've been a lot worse and I will not speak ill of Sherwood for trying. He will be a good manager in time, and may yet be a force in the Premiership.
think we need to make our minds up about what we want as fans. Pretty triangles or a serious effort at a trophy. Im still going for the trophy...had many years of pretty football with 2 trophies in over 20 years. Id be happy with Benitez.
I'm not sure we'd get Benitez anyway, he looks like he's onto something good at Napoli. 3rd in the league, an Italian Cup and a good squad that, given the potential for further success there, might not be easily broken up. Lots of people on Twitter seem to advocate Benitez but I agree with you YV, I'm not so sure about him. I feel very sorry for clubs like Ajax and Southampton. Every year its a new rebuilding process for them. Can't be easy for the fans.
we're being linked with Tuchel now http://metro.co.uk/2014/05/13/could...w-manager-after-tim-sherwood-sacking-4726342/ Never heard of him
We are just an expensively assembled Southampton or Ajax.....don't we lose our best player every year?
There has paper/online chatter on Tuchel for about a few weeks or so. Coaches at Mainz and wants out but his club won't release him from his contract, which runs to next summer. He's young at 40 but has been coaching Mainz since the start of the 2009 season. From what little I know of him, he would seem a major gamble. As Sidney said regarding Poch though, he might be a very Levy appointment - everyone wins if he does well and he's an easy fall guy if he doesn't. I was going to say something like that too. We just experience it to a slightly lesser extent IMO, and then poach a few players from the aforementioned clubs and others like them. Welcome to modern football I guess
I watch football to be entertained and I think with managers like Mourinho it's less entertainment and more tension as they play with a set up that will sit back and allow themselves to be attacked all game(against the better sides). Give me sides with players like Eriksen, VDV, Modric and Bale being played to get the best out of them rather than sides with 11 workhorses who win more games. That's just my opinion though and I can see where you're coming from too. We generally get to keep them until they reach their peak though. At Ajax and Southampton they lose their players when they're still young and many years away from fulfilling their potential. At least Southampton will be properly compensated if they have to sell their best players this summer though.
"At least Southampton will be properly compensated if they have to sell their best players this summer though." Though suitors will try it on at the first scent of financial trouble. Tragic that Soton had to cash in their future options on a Bale sale because of this.
Didn't he turn Inter from treble winners to mid table and then we dumped his Inter team out of the CL before he was sacked after 6 months? Hes a good coach but don't want him here. He was at Liverpool for 6 years, won an FA Cup and fluked the CL, its not like hes going to come here and repeat that, nor will he be handed 230 million to buy whoever he likes so maybe if you said Bentinez was available short term like what he done with Chelsea, but long term? Not convinced and also as mentioned he has a job at Napoli where he has more chance of success.
lesser of the 2 evils? same result......we wont get anywhere if we become programmed to accept this on a yearly basis
That's like saying you would be against Guardiola becoming our manager considering what he has done with treble winners Bayern.
