    Is it gonna happen?

Even if not, should go all out to buy Alonso, anyway.

Premier League club Sunderland are hoping that Fiorentina may accept their proposal for defenders Mobido Diakite and Marcos Alonso to turn their loan deals into permanent transfers, after the Spaniard impressed as they survived potential relegation.

After failing to settle in new countries and clubs, a deal was struck during the January transfer window between the two clubs that ensured both return to the shores in which they had had far more prosperous times.

However, while the Spaniard has flourished during Sunderland’s successful battle with relegation and journey to the Capital One Cup final, former Lazio man Diakite has found starts much harder to come by in Florence and Tuttomercatoweb report this as a potential problem for any deal.

Making just nine Serie A appearances for the Viola, the Frenchman has not managed to convince Vincezo Montella that he is integral to his future plans and the club may prefer a cash deal with the English club keen to retain the 23-year-old full-back.

Get Alonso. If Diakite comes back so be it but get Alonso regardless.

I think this will happen, Diakite has played regular over there, alonso has played regular here, neither were getting games for their parent clubs. No brainer of a deal.

Neither will be on much. Diakite came when Ellis was being strict on wages and wages on the whole are low in Italy so Alonso won't be on much. I read it will cost us 1.6m = Diakite for Alonso. Great deal.

Great deal then if safc pull it off! Especially when you consider the quality between the two in the games they played for us.

I don't think Diakite has been given a fair crack of the whip here, but he cost nowt and we know we want Alonso. Very good deal for me like.
