just gossip astro, Liverpool could be ready to take one of such gambles, as La Stampa reports the Reds have generated strong interest in Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay. The 28-year-old Dutch winger has a contract till 2015 and has been told to find a new employer in the summer. Afellay made his name during his time with PSV while represented Netherlands at 2010 World Cup and in two European Championships. He is highly talented no doubt, but somehow has faded away in the last few seasons. Several Italian clubs are interested in him, but report suggest Liverpool could be his likely destination in summer. He could be a good squad player though, and will be available for cheap as well. Roy Hodgson has warned England's World Cup camp will be a transfer no-go zone after Southampton pair Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw shot to the top of Liverpool and Manchester United's wanted lists last night. Hodgson has banned agents from England's tournament base in Rio and the two warm-up camps in Portugal and Miami, and there will be no allowance for players to become involved in negotiations about moves no matter how huge and lucrative they may be. Attacking midfielder Lallana, 26, is the subject of a £20million bid from Liverpool while teenage left-back Shaw is nearing a £27m move to Manchester United. Saints have already rejected the bid for Lallana, but the player is keen on the move and negotiations could be lengthy. Both were named in Hodgson's 23-man squad for the tournament yesterday, forcing the manager to address the question of whether they might be unsettled at the World Cup by the prospect of massive transfers back at home. I am definitely not going to have agents swirling around or any cases of this or that player has got to leave the camp," he said. "I would expect the players to understand that. "I am going to make it very clear to the players that England is England and your club is your club. The two are not married together. I think they are happy with that." Source: Daily Express ------------------------------ anyone know how long our 2 clubs have then IF anything is done about these players before they are off? assuming anything gets done before hand.
the reality for hodgson is half the players going to the world cup know just as well as the rest of us that a group pahase exit and the sack is on the cards fro hodgson so I am willing to bet that if a player has a deal that can happen now he is gonig to ignore this bull and tell hodgosn to go suck on an egg. the reality is it all paper talk anyway and signing someone before the world cup risks an injury making your plans all go up in smoke. the only players LFc will sign prior to the WC will be players not going to it.
Explains a lot. I wouldn't mind him at Anfield tbh.....have a horrible feeling that Benzima will be sold to make way for you know who (I don't even want to say it!) at madrid. Costa would soften the blow a little if so.
LFc need to cut their cloth to measure. i woudl look for pace in the next siging up fornt myself. asaps was just plain silly.
Lallana is not better than Coutinho. Coutinho has created more chances than Lallana despite playing a deeper role and having more defensive responsibility. £32m for Costa is pretty good value in this current market - but he'll probably be on about £150k a week.
I'd say Lallana and Coutinho are different, thus making for better squad options. Costa is a good priced signing for them. If they'd had him this season they would have won the league IMO

Well it depends on cost. If he's not too expensive- it's a fantastic player who has stated in the past that he wants to see out his career playing for Liverpool. He's got 2 or 3 more years at least playing at the top level. He plays in a position (positions) where age isn't as big a factor I presume we would play him in a DM role- not a CB/RB role that Barcelona used him for. He'd be better than Gerrard in the role that Gerrard has now... much fewer goals mind... but then it means no Gerrard corners- so we might get an occasional goal from corners.
Seems Benzema is off from Real if Press to be believed which means just one thing with Aguero yesterday saying he's staying at City. Suarez has said he'll stay but will he when Madrid launch their full on Media and PR assault? The thing that worries me more really is that if worst comes to the worst, and Suarez goes back on his word, there is literally NOBODY of equal talent, or nearly equal talent/potential. The most obvious answer was Costa but he's off to to Chelsea now. Cavani is staying at PSG. Benzema has been linked with Juve, Monaco, Arsenal plus others. Can't afford Falca and isn't realistic anyway. The only one I can think off is Jackson Martinez from Porto but they're a nightmare to deal with and he'll cost a bomb. Worrying. I'm just praying Suarez was telling the truth (if what was printed in the press was actually true, in context and nvt lost in translation in the first place!)
I think Real Madrid will bid for Suarez this summer for sure. If it is in the region of £80-100m then it will be a test for us. It is all up to Suarez, he has Champions league here now and is the best player in the league. Personally I don't think he owes us anything, he has been here 3 and half years and may see it as the last chance to go to Madrid.
