I would like to think that Timmy fronted up for the good of the club, and :

- in return asked for the club to get those coaching badges sorted and be groomed
with a view to being a future Spurs manager.

- but Levy said no.


Somehow I doubt that is the truth of it. :(
 
Now he's actually gone, how do we sum up Tim's time at the club? I'm personally very mixed. Yes, he's fallen out with a few of the players, and important ones at that. He's shot his mouth off to the press too often. And he couldn't stop us getting tanked by Liverpool and City and being beaten again by West Ham, and all the other dud results we had under him. But at the same time the style of football has generally improved from our turgid first half of the season under AVB. He got Eriksen (albeit perhaps not in his best position) playing very well, bought Ade back in to galvanise the semi-resurgence we had for a while, and even got Kane in the first team squad and scoring a few. Bentaleb has looked a player full of some potential as well when he has played. And to play devil's advocate, how do we know that the grass will be greener on the other side? We sacked Harry because we thought it would be and for a time it was, until Bale was sold and the reinvestment partially squandered. We sacked AVB one-and-a-half years into a supposedly long term project because, despite a major summer rebuild one year in that appeared to take place partially against the manager's will and outside his direction, apparently he wasn't doing well enough. Who is to say that sacking Tim for De Boer or Pochettino to come in will be any different? Any decision, to stick or twist with Tim, was a gamble. Time will now tell whether it was the right choice.
 
Sherwood consolidated and improved towards the end of the season, the new manager will now have to start from scratch.

For fronting up after AVB got the boot, he gets 100% credit.
More credit from me depends on the extent that he was the architect of the Academy.
 
I view Sherwood similarly to Monk at Swansea. Managers who have been given the job on a trial basis whilst steadying the ship. Both of them have clearly made mistakes and are learning on the job. Both can argue they have been a success in steadying the ship.

However, one of them has quietly got on with his job at a club that isn't going to be in the glare of the media. The other has been outspoken and at a club where every mistake is going to be picked up upon and in some cases blown way out of proportion. Doesn't surprise me that Monk got the Swansea job and that Sherwood has gone.
 
does this mean, shock horror, we actually have someone lined up? Or are we in for a couple of months of rudderless ship? I know where my money is
 
Any new manager you appoint will presumably have to better Sherwood's 59% win rate in order to avoid the boot next season?

Swansea are a small club with low expectations and prefer to give unproven managers a chance so its a different situation as even if Sherwood was quiet and got on with his job he would have been sacked as this has nothing to do with his personality, just the fact he isn't ready for this job on a full time basis.

Giggs won't get the Utd job just because hes a nice guy, quiet and has the respect of the players.

Levy knew when he appointed Sherwood that he would sack him, he just wanted rid of AVB and Sherwood was an easy option, plus made some sense as he knew the players (apart from capoue) and could settle right into the job on a short term basis.
 
This decision will be a joint one, Baldini and Levy, unless Baldini is also facing the Axe, but I would expect if Baldini stays that he will play a big part in selecting and hiring the manager as he will ideally want someone who shares the same vision as him and can get the best out of the players signed as i'm sure they still have hopes for Lamela and Soldado and the fact that out of Soldado, Lamela, Chadli, Paulinho and Eriksen, its just Eriksen who has settled.

it said there was an agreement at the end of the season. So the £1m pay-off was just bullshit.
 
Is anyone surprised that Sherwood has gone? I'm certainly not. Didn't want him, and knew he wasn't up to the job.

Levy appointing him wasn't the mistake, it was employing AVB, when a lot of us also said, early on, that that appointment wouldn't work.

My worry has always been that Levy doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to appointing managers, and that he should not be in the chairman's seat. By all means keep him in charge of finances, but, please, let's have another man in charge of employing managers.

I can only hope that Spurs - Levy predominantly - has learned that we cannot scimp on the appointment of the manager; it's the most important position in the club. If the manager does not have, and maintain, the respect of the squad, we are doomed to under-achieve.

People think that Sherwood has been treated abysmally, but what about the players he has treated abysmally?

Please, please, please, Spurs, get in a good manager, even if it costs us what we would rather pay on getting in a top player.
