Not a chance better than willo and Saylor! I hat it how people think that just because youre a 5th choice CB at manure you must be class. Stven Taylor is a better defender than he will ever be. Please dont fall into the bench warmer for manure he must be good. Id have wilow and Taylor in my team every day ahead of them!

Haha, not him personally just have lived through NUFC spending money on Manures rejects and every single time they have been shocking but because there in the Man u squad they must be good so we pay them massive long contracts and they come here and are not good enough. I like how the mackems are doing that now but don't want to fall into the same trap over and over. But each to their own...

NO, priority in this transfer window is buying attacking players.

Maybe, but id still like to see a few defenders come in, just not Jonny Evans. A young bargain buy from the french league like Bassong and a new RB and i'd be happy.

Who said he is 5th choice. If Fergie says so I will grant you that point, but if it just your opinion then say so. I would also argue that irrespective the difference between Evans, Smalling and Jones is very small so 3rd to 5th at Man U is a very fine line and nothing to be frowned upon.

As for whether Evans is better than Willo and Saylor that is my opinion. Saylor has been unable to maintain a decent run of form throughout his career and just because he finished the season with three good games it hardly makes him world class or for that matter a guaranteed first team starter. That is my opinion.

Stupid how? I was pointing out that good players leave clubs as well not just rejects.

As he was a regular starter for Man U for a season I think that means he has already made it at a top ten club. So i'll take that bet ... how much are you going to give me? :)

Hm well my opinion is that Smalling is streets ahead of Evans, based upon the standard of play and the appearences, even though Evans is 3 years older than him. Did you watch manure in the carling cup last year? Evans was made to look like a championship player at best.

You say "Saylor has been unable to maintain a decent run of form throughout his career". As far as i'm concerned neither has Evans. But because he plays for man u then he must be better than Willow and Taylor.

I would say 5th choice as on league appearences, Vidic, Ferdinand, Smalling and Oshea(I know they werent all CB) all played more than him, that is fact not opinnion. The omly reason SAF would sell him is because he isnt good enough. Ill repeat isnt good enough, yet you want us to sign him. Id like to think that we have a bit more ambition than just signing players that arent good enough for other clubs. That is my opinion.

There is a difference though, one player left manure when he was a teenager, he never played for manure, not once. Ill grant you that some slip through the net- fair enough. But as he has had his 30 odd sub appearences at manure SAF fergie has had time to judge him and he has decided he aint good enough. If he such a brilliant player then why did Fergie sign Smalling for 10 mill and Jones for 18 mill? Surely the al mighty Evans would be enough to fill these positions. Im happy Pardew is more ambitious than you, that is all.

We'll have to agree to disagree I think.

But I will add that writing a player off based on one appearance is harsh. Colo, Saylor and Willo all had their own nightmare games last season but they can't be written off for that. I've seen more than enough of Evans to see that he has great potential and has been at times a very good player.

Also rating a player by appearances makes no sense. You obviously rate Saylor as your first or second choice but due to injuries he would not been in the top two CB's on the appearance tables for recent seasons. Evans has also had injury problems which held him back. You obviously don't like Evans but at least be objective and fair with your criticism, you have just made one rule for one and another for Evans.

I'd take him no more than 3-4 mil though as he'd be only squad cover behind Saylor and Colo

He's 23 but hasn't got that many first team matches considering he's been playing as a professional since the end of 2006.

    90 appearances in 5 years.

Part and parcel of being a youngster at a top club really. How many appearances does a Park ji Sung have, I'd have him. Top clubs will always have quality to rotate.

    Good stuff :)

Don't reckon we'll get him anyway to be honest so it has probably been a mute point to debate it. And if it helps get our opinions closer I also think that if we need another CB we can get better, certainly for the money we would have to pay. Just felt the need to defend him because I think he is a good player. :)

I agree, I think we should be looking to bring in a young cheap French CB like Bassong was for fourth place cover, could end up having a first place position if he improves, but I know that will be extremely hard to find.

I doubt we'd get Bassong on the cheap, even though he's down the pecking order at Spuds.

I'd go with getting Bassong back. We know what he can do and I think he would be a first team starter once he has gotten his confidence back. Not sure if the Spuds would let him go for a reasonable price though.
