More than likely, but i couldn`t see Moyes or any other manager extending his contract either. He is finished at the top and should be professional enough to realise this.

Yeah but until you've targeted and purchased replacements for other outgoing players its a bit suicidal to not at least keep him for one more season as cover, but knowing his arrogant reputation he probably wanted the same salary for less games.

Hears Deadly Doug Ellis on Radio 5 last night talking about the sale of Villa. He intimated that the sale was probably a done deal. He also suggested that the value would be about £200 million but that the new onwers would need to spend a further £100 million just to be competitive!

Now if Villa have to spend that kind of money, it makes United's proposed £150 million to mount a title challenge look a little sick.

i think mr ellis is senile.

villa are not worth 200mil they are 120mil in the red or something of that order. There is nobody going to touch them for that money.

so how can a club like that spend 100mil... from where? FPP still kicks in guys. Fantasists at work

I don't agree. I think his contribution had reached pathetic levels and he was just not worth keeping.

Utd need to buy a CB and CM very quickly... the managerial appointment need to happen but the nice thing is the guy is off with holland so until they are out he won't be doing much... who's going to buy before the world cup, wheres the real list of targets, is there one?

Utd's nightmare scenario is he rocks up july 1 or whenever then starts looking at players through preseason before splashing late in the window when all the good uns have been bought up and those left are not wanting to be sold or clubs don't want to part.

    we'll see.

He's a rotten egg, a walking ego and you can guarantee he was the ring leader in making Moyes tenure untenable in the dressing room. The man's a snake.

    Completely agree.

Quality defender in his day but an absolute Chav with a big influence in the dressing room.

Once Fergie went it was open season for him.

well he had a chip on his shoulder the size of a 2x4 and a lot of issues but.......... all career's pass. i would say walking ego is accurate.

however snake could be attributed to half of all players cos giggs and the like are the same. same for terry and such and frankly suarez is walking ego too.

When they're still great players you put up with and manage the big ego's in the dressing room.

When their legs have gone and they're still a pain in the arse on a whopping salary, then it's time to show them the exit.

I agree with this (I know, I know.....).
Many players are only the players they are because of their egos, and any psychologist would be pumping them up to think they're the best even when they're not.
It's why you need a strong and/or wily manager to control those egos and not let them become a disruptive influence.
Fergie's ego dwarfed even those of his players, and anyone who opposed him got short shrift.
It's (one reason) why Moyes didn't have a snowball's walking into a situation like that.

    Is right.

The minute the likes of Ferdinand & Co. decided that they weren't having Moyes (& from the stories that have come out since his departure that was early on) and he failed to fully understand that fact and therefore deal with it accordingly - he was doomed.

However, given that the biggest snake in the grass was supposed to be his right hand man, he never had a prayer

In theory it was Round, who he brought with him. However Giggs was forced on him by his anointer and then proceeded to stab him in the back

You haven't got your thinking cap on have you? In terms of structural assets, support and the potential to build, Villa are one of the prime purchase clubs in the Premiership. Any deal for the purchase of the club between £200 -250 million would be perfectly viable. Ellis was suggesting that he already knew who the purchaser was. I got the impression that the 'deal' was US based.

Now read again what I actually wrote. Ellis was taking about a £100 million spend so as to be competitive - he was NOT targeting European competition. As for being senile then all I can say is that for a 90 year old he sounded very compos mentis.
