The former Rangers player and manager led the R’s to a memorable Division Two play-off semi-final win over Oldham Athletic as boss in 2003. And speaking to Hoops – the official matchday programme of QPR – Holloway said: “The play-offs are lotteries. If you can get momentum going, get your minds right, you go for it and keep believing in yourselves, then anything can happen. Just to be involved in the play-offs is a total privilege. “You have to build a spirit and it was very difficult for Harry Redknapp to build any spirit when he took over at Loftus Road last season as the team had been losing every week. “So what the current R’s players have to do now is stick together. They are a terrific bunch of lads and I wish them all the very best for the play-offs. “I know I am not connected to Queens Park Rangers anymore but it never leaves you. “Hopefully I will be very proud of what Harry and the boys can do in the play-offs as I still have a nice, warm place in my heart for the Hoops.” Read more at http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/1...offs-message-1546503.aspx#RyULSl4QFxzL9j4V.99
Will never forget his little speech, was it after that Oldham game...? 'This is a proper football club.' Brilliant man...would love him back one day.
âNo words can do justice to how I feel. Devastated doesnât even start to cover it. To have played for this great club in the premier division and see it now, in the third division for the first time since the 60s. Itâs a tragedy. It breaks my heart. And to think how those QPR fans will feel, having come from what we had to this, here today. I feel sick. Absolutely sick. But let me tell you this: QPR will rise again. I promise you that. Like a phoenix, it will rise again. Weâve lost everything, but everything weâve lost weâll get back. Trust me on that. Weâll get it all back. Whether Iâll be the manager when that happens, I donât know. Iâd like to be. I can at least get the whole thing started. Believe me, Iâll be proved right. Remember me saying this. QPR will get back there again â back to how it was a few years ago and the years before that. Mark my words. Remember them. It will happen, Iâm telling you. Everything weâve lost, we will get back.â Ian Holloway - after Q.P.R.s relegation to the third tier
"I have such bad luck at the moment that if I fell in a barrel of boobs I'd come out sucking my thumb".. Top top man, and a true one off character. I'd have him back in a heartbeat.
That just brought a tear to my eye. (Was gonna say lump to my throat but I know what you lot are like)
Brilliant from the guy.... Out of interest have any of our overpaid superstars who are out on loan sent any good luck messages or more likely they don't even know we are in the play offs.......sorry that is negative.....must be positive...... COYR's
I do and always will have maximum respect for and be a huge fan of Ian whichever team he is managing! Top top man!
