Lucas Leiva has played down suggestions that his Liverpool FC career is over. The Brazil midfielder, who has made 243 appearances for the Reds since signing from Gremio in 2007, took to social media site Instagram today to post photos of his family on the pitch following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Newcastle. They were accompanied by the message: “Yesterday I finished my 7th season with Liverpool. I want to thank the ones who supported me all this years. #thankyou #goodbye.”
How is #goodbye playing down suggestions his LFC career may be over? I hope it's not but that message suggests to me it might well be.
I've said before Lovren would be a great signing. The saints fans really rate him and he is a good organiser at the back which is what we miss now Carra is no longer there.
look at utd de gea Rafael Jones Evans SHAW Carrick Cleverly Kagawa rooney Mata RVP Thats being kind, januasaj could play. call it 4-2-3-1 Lets be frank. Rafae is a loose cannon, jones and evans are not up to it, carrick is aging and cleverly is roundly abused. theres an awful lot of wor kto do if you are spending 30-40million on every buy. the shaw fee is madness right now.... even if you think he's bale mark 2.
Just not sure about spending all that money on Lallana, have to trust Brendan. Hope we go for Lovren though.
Martinez for £30m is actually a bargain IMO. We're talking about one of the best DM's in world football and someone who will replace Steven Gerrard (as hard as it may be). And this sends out a big statement to everyone, and it represents value. Compare that to £20m on Lallana which is madness when you have players like Mateo Kovacevic and Roberto Firmino available who are cheaper, more potential and are arguably currently better.
I wonder why. Could it be because several dimwitted Liverpool fans have turned up uninvited with a load of nonsense about how Lallana is already a Liverpool player? Incidentally, if anyone wants a relatively well-informed Saints fan's view on the progress of said transfer, I'd be happy to give it to you. If you'd rather live in la-la land, I'll leave you to it.
I understand why you aren't happy, you could potentially lose two of your best players. However I can't see us paying what you want for Lallana so don't think you'll have to worry about that too much.
No that's not the reason. As I said, we're unhappy with Liverpool fans coming onto our board and giving us a misinformed take on something we understand much better. I also don't think you'll pay what we want
Well you seemed pretty pissed off before Liverpool fans come over. Also if that isn't one of the reasons why you're pissed off then you're lying.
30mil is cheap for him 20 mil on lalanna is not quite as bad as 20 on downing but..... it is at least 5mil over pay. is a good player mind
tell you what... please tell me what you think, i didn't see anything on your board cos i didn't go there but please let me your your view fully... .and add in what you think about shaw rumours for utd and all please.
Southampton's players are being linked with everyone. Manchester City, Manchester Twonited, Chelsea, and Us. I can imagine it can be quite frustrating to be Southampton at the moment. I also imagine we have some idiot posters who go to other boards and try to rile people up just like everyone else. Most of us though, don't see Lallana, or anyone other Southampton players as definite for our squad though. I'd like Lallana, I think he's a great player... not really what we need though- despite being linked to us. Shaw is more what we need- but he is being linked stronger to Manchester Twonited and Chelsea... and now apparently, Manchester 1 is after him too! (they want more domestic players) If Southampton come out of this in-tact- it will be a brilliant piece of work... if not, the bidding war will make you richer.
Ok, well let me first start by saying that I'm not party to any inside information, all of this is based on information which is freely available and can be verified with a google search. Secondly, it's possible that we will sell players, even important players, however, contrary to some reports (ahem, Mr Hansen) we are financially secure (not rich, but secure) and we have no need to sell anyone to make ends meet. It's true that there is uncertainty around what may happen due to the relatively embryonic nature of our board - for the uninitiated, our previous chairman Nicola Cortese was removed by the owner in January. There is some doubt around the intentions of the owner and the new board, but they have repeatedly stated that there is no pressing need or desire to sell any key players. Now, given that we are not desperate for money, that Lallana and Shaw are both contracted until 2018, and that both are happy at Southampton, if they are to be sold it will be on our terms, which means they will not be cheap. Far from it. The rumours are of an offer from United in the range of £30m for Shaw, and though that price seems outlandish (and indeed it is), it probably represents a lower bound on the range that we might accept. No news yet on whether it has or will be accepted, but my inclination is that it won't be. Since no evidence of an actual offer has been reported for Lallana, the amount (seemingly the consensus is £20m) is a bit of a guess. His worth to us as a club is considerably higher than Shaw's. He is the heartbeat of the team and frankly is irreplaceable. However, there doesn't seem to be as much demand for his services, so perversely, if we were to sell it would probably be for less than Shaw. An opening offer of £20m, were it to materialise, would almost certainly be rejected however. Lallana has given mixed signals about his desire to stay or go, and I honestly believe he is undecided. It's clear that he is a high-quality player, and that he harbours a desire to someday play in the champions league and compete for the premier league title - something which realistically we are unlikely to be able to offer. However, he has been at Southampton since the age of 12, stayed with us when we were in administration and relegated to league one (when he had the opportunity to leave), and has been a major part of our resurgence. He feels very emotionally invested in us and if he were to go it would be with a heavy heart. If he does decide he wants to further his career with Liverpool, or whoever else may come in for him, then we may face a struggle to keep him. I would compare this situation to the one Everton faced with Baines last summer though. He wanted to go, he even put in a transfer request, but he still loves it at Everton and came to terms with the fact they wouldn't sell him. I think Lallana is a pretty grounded character and due to his love for Southampton he would be unlikely to make a real fuss, especially if the board make a concerted push to improve the team. If in say a year's time we haven't progressed, and he continues playing as he has done this season, I think it will be really hard to keep him and it would be difficult to begrudge him that chance. Personally though, right now, I don't think it would make sense for us to consider selling him and I don't think he would be disruptive enough to force our hand.
i have to wonder... the press know the "new" owner down there wasn't that interested and the manager nearly left so i think they have an agenda to sell all southamptons players for them in their papers and websites. we got this when g&h were shown to be f'd. and last year with suarez. I think it will be interesting to see what happens as firesale comes to mind which nobody ever wants to see. the manager is being linked to spurs right? so is rafa mind. I don't know but i heard mr shaw was a chav so it'll be interesting to see what mourinho does. the torres 50mil falls out of fpp doesn't it? they could spend very big after being tight this year. if shaw went to chelski then utd would be raging and then apa-totaldonkeya could play RB and then ivanovic and cahill could play cb. who knows.
