I think 'Pool were extremely lucky this season.
(1) Club breaches Goofy's contract to keep him, but instead of being sued, the gamble pays off, and Goofy goes on to be the best player in the PL.
(2) United **** up completely by appointing non-entity manager, Moyes, and suffer their worst season in PL history.
(3) Chelsea make the mistake of re-employing The Smug One, and **** up massively.
(4) Whinger refuses to buy a striker, and Arsenal implode just before Xmas, going on one of the most spectacular bottle-jobs ever witnessed.
(5) The mighty Spurs chairman, "bargain basement" Levy, hits the self-destruct button, not once, but twice during the same season, and Spurs never really get themselves in contention.
Every single one of these factors played their part in LFC looking like world-beaters. It is extremely unlikely that all of these factors will come together again in the same season. Indeed, with Goofy gone, LFC's dreadful defence, a rejuvenated Chelsea (after they sack The Smug One) and Arsenal, and an organized Spurs, on top of a grueling CL schedule, I simply cannot see 'Pool finishing in the top 4, next season.
That said, you've got the memories of the dreams this season, and that is something warm to cling to in the bleak days ahead.
