If we win the league we won't be looking back at any, well not in anything like as much detail than if we lose out by one or two points. Obviously you have to consider all the games we dropped points, so any losses or draws throughout the season. Oh and also games where we've wasted chances to score more. Speaking to people, neutrals and fans of other teams, most of them think we are going to stroll all the games in the run in but City/Chelsea. We're all fans though so paranoia and worry are endemic, as well as expectation and belief. A lot of LFC fans I speak to fear a boss performance from one of the lesser sides we have to play.
The Spurs thrashing away from home for me. We had an average at best away record and I think that win gave us a lot of belief that we could go and beat teams away from home.
That was good but I think they were there for the taking. I think the 5-1 win against Arsenal is the stand out result. they were top and flying, they had the best defensive record in the league at the time too
Man City and Chelsea away, we played well enough to get at least a point in each game, depriving them of 2 pts each. They are the ones that would have me kicking myself.
Top 5 games I would look back on positively that have really helped our cause/ I really enjoyed: 1. Fulham 2-3. I was convinced it was points dropped and us out of it, but we won in the last minute or so and it gave us such a boost, back to back wins as opposed to dropping points after a win. A huge game to win and gave us a massive boost. Probably the most important victory of the season for those reasons. 2. United 1-0 at home. Very early on in the season and it gave us confidence and led to a good first half leaving us top at Christmas. 3. Stoke 3-5. A very difficult place to go and we showed we have improved massively in a game in recent years we would have probably lost or at best drawn. We manned up and did them. 4. Spurs 5v0. This made people take note and showed we were quite capable of smashing decent teams. Put the Spurs away hoodoo to bed. Probably the most pleasing result given some of twats on their board. 5. Arsenal 5v1. Our record against the guys near us wasn't great until this dismantling, showing we meant business this year. Most disappointing: 1. Hull 3-1. We were out played and out fought. It was the old Liverpool of the past year or so searing its head. A hugely disappointing result. 2. West Brom away 1-1. Gave away a **** goal throwing the game away. Very disappointing coming off thrashing Everton at home. 3. City 2-1. Not in a sense it has hurt our cause too much, or we played badly. Disappointed because of that offside decision again Sterling. We were shafted and didn't get what we deserved. 4. Villa 2-2. Dropping points again this time against a teams that on some days would struggle in League 1. Not many negative though really.
Brendan Rodgers went further and looked at the game at Etihad Stadium where a legitimate goal of Sterling was disallowed. "We should had wonhe said". I believe we deserve a draw at least...I look at Crystabul game where we threw away 2 p0ints.. It is a young team.
I dont like looking back at games, as over a season its consistancy that matters and how well you perform. Thing is with the Crystal Palace and Chelsea games, we only had ourselves to blame, we lost the points agianst Chelsea because we couldn't break them down, and we went gung-ho against Palace, t hey were down to us playing the wrong way or out and our poorly and you cant argue with the outcome. I look back at that Boxing Day game. We did enough to win that game, we created the chances and luck went against us. I still dont think there was anything wrong with Sterlings goal, we could have had a pen, and Joe Hart made 2 outstanding saves either side of HT. Had we got the draw we deserved, we would have 1pt more, City 2 less, we win the league. Thats why I'd look back at that one.
in the end guys nobody looks back in later years anywhere near christmas. everyone will see LFc crusing to the title and gerard falling over to define his career. You know the mancs and the premier league years crowd will crow on that for years. that one moment turned glory into ashes. no other result before it matters cos we played ourselves into a glorious position... even then city fought back well and that had a run of winning 11 in 12 games earlier in the season everyone forgets. they were always there or there abouts this year. nobody will remember arsenal imploding or cheslea playing anti football but they will remember the year gerrard fell over. I don't dispute a single game called out here, not one good or bad cos i was right there with you guys. I enjoyed the year, sorry its over but that was last year roll on august now.
