Nope, but it perhaps puts paid to the Jim White/Neil Ashton/Nicola Cortese axis of evil idea....

There is always a bigger fish, no matter how ambitious the club are, but selling Lallana for less than £50,000,000 would be a terrible piece of business.
He is worth more to us than just his monetary value and letting him go for for a fee that is anything short of astranomical would send the wrong message about what we want to achieve.

I'd be amazed if we got more than half of that figure.

Then we shouldn't sell him. I think most people would have been amazed to get £15m for Chamberlain but we did...

the sounds coming from all angles now are that we do need to sell.

the percieved wisdom is that the club's debt is sustainable (if not with any funds for progression) so either we need to sell to fund the development of the squad or we must need to sell to fund the owners.

i've always been a bit concerned at the damp squib that was the end of markus' engineering empire.

do debts pass on in inheritance in switzerland as they do in germany?

If you consider everyone on saintsweb to be ITK, then yeah, I guess.

all of the press, club chaplain.

the club aren't even actually saying anything to the effect that we don't need to sell.

How does it? They could still be stirring stuff. It just could mean some stuff is true?

Because we've been basing our primal fears of the Cortese cortege stirring upon those that have been reporting - obviously in this case it's not part of that. Who knows mate, I think this is a little bit more than some people stirring - I have nothing to base that on other than gut feel, but there's too much around now for this just to be speculation I rather suspect.

All of the press are not saying we "need to sell". Alan Hansen said that and he knows sweet FA.

The club chaplain? Is this a joke? What does he know about our finances?

We don't need to sell, says Southampton chairman

How much clearer does it have to be?

I've just heard this and it may be a load of balls but it's a slightly interesting idea so I'll stick it in here.

My mate at work who hears stuff about Liverpool told me around December/early January time that Lallana would go to Liverpool. Naturally I laughed and said Cortese would tell them to either write an absurdly large cheque or piss off. I then forgot about it. He came and found me today (surprise surprise!) and he reckons that a deal for them to sign Lallana was close in January but someone at our end pulled the plug. He thinks Poch basically said he'd quit if Lallana was sold.

That is my point, if Shaw went for £30,000,000 it would be good business, he is very good but not currently worth that to us, he could be adequately replaced for a third of that and we'd still have money left to service some of the debt and make further squad improvements.
If Lallana went for £25,000,000, it would be detremental to the club, we'd struggle to replace him and it would send out the message that we lack ambition.

he only knows what he's told. he's supposed to have been told that. i don't believe a profession as full of manbabies as football is watertight.

it's a good headline. did he say it? it's not in the article.
