I think this is quite possibly a large part of the answer, same as the previous independence vote was rigged by not being a simple majority vote.

Referendums are considered to be, electorally, on a par with local and regional elections which ex-pats aren't entitled to vote in.

I would argue that you shouldn't have a say in these either. If you're a soldier serving overseas, fair enough, but if you've emigrated you shouldn't get a vote in UK elections.

I guess you should ask the Government why they allow British expats to vote?

Personally I don't want Scottish expats voting for independence because I think the danger is they'll go all braveheart on it and vote yes because of misty eyed reminiscence of the old country.

But mainly because they don't have to live with the consequences regardless of which way the vote goes.

As a Scotsman living here my heart wants independence because I think we should be running our own affairs. But that's not a reason in itself to vote yes. I have to consider all the economic, social, and political ramifications because I'll have to live with them.

If I were an expat with a vote I can pretty much guarantee I would vote with my heart rather than my head.

And anyway, ye ****ed off out of this country so keep yer ****in neb oot <grr>

Likewise, you don't want the 1m Jocks in Nigelshire voting cos they'd all keep the status quo.

I'm going to vote for whichever will induce the most beel.

The Nationalists are all mutant haggis munching anti-English ****s to a man, but as yet, the Onionists all seem to be dour faced pensioners who can't put any positive message out for keeping alive the greatest union of states that the world has ever seen, it's a damning indictment of the standard of debate.

I honestly think that Nigel wants rid of us.

That crossed my mind too. The shambles of the "Better Together" campaign makes ye wonder if they want rid of us. And if so, what do they know that we don't? <laugh>

They know that we'll enslave ourselves to a huge welfare state and render ourselves uncompetitive for generations.

That ruling will considerably reduce the turnout.
