Yes I like that. It means you have helped participate in the democratic process which for me is fundamental - people died to get the vote and not to use it is terrible. A positive "none of the above" or writing that on your ballot paper means you have expressed your opinion - and everybody's opinion should be counted. The yh count spoiled ballots
Not that I'm saying that the EU is a bad thing, but..... Pythagoras' Theorem: .....................................24 words. Lord's Prayer: ................................................ 66 words. Archimedes' Principle: ......................................67 words. Ten Commandments: ....................................179 words. Gettysburg Address: ....................................286 words. US Declaration of Independence : ................1,300 words. US Constitution with all 27 Amendments: ....7,818 words. EU Regulations on the Sale of CABBAGES: ....................26,911 words Speaks volumes about the Organisation.
Just had a quick look at EFTA which is still going and which Norway is a member seems to being quite nicely thank you , did wonder why I saw Zurich banks in so many places lol!
the crazy thing about the quality and public health regulations for food is that most major retailers actually have more stringent standards in their supply contracts anyway!
I love the irony of this debate....I am not going to participate any further as the irony is just too painful.
I wonder how many people would like to leave the EU because the regulations on cabbages run to nearly 27,000 words. Seems serious enough to me to get out tomorrow.
The European Parliament has a large problem of communication in as much as it has no direct medial connection to the people (unlike national governments) - and so is not in the position of being able to deny urban myths such as the cabbage text. Granted there are some very long texts coming out of Brussels dealing with subjects such as asparagus etc. but - they are often made long and time consuming by having to be translated into about 30 languages - or would you rather have them only in English and French ? Very often the E.U. is blamed for over regulatory laws by the 'pass the buck' method ie. National, Regional or Local governments defending their actions by saying that they were compelled by Europe when passing unpopular legislation. An example of this was the European law regarding centralized sewage systems which was very flexible when it left Brussels (allowing for localized solutions whenever possible) but was interpreted and executed very differently - often much more stringently- by local governments. In this case every complaint was met with the excuse 'it's not our fault - blame Brussels'.
Cologne - people don't want to know the truth - where their mind is made up myths such as this are good enough for many to justify their decisions - there is an old expression "where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise.
Yep - I am sure their free trade agreement with Switzerland, Liechtenstein and (apologies Ak) the mighty Iceland are what make them do "quite nicely"
This one made me laugh though our politicians education must be worse than I thought http://t.co/CkMMHy7nap
Yes - I believe a badly translated almost unreadable interview with that rag as much as I would believe anything printed in the Mail, Sun or other rags. Why not show us what the BNP and the Socialist worker Party rags say too Get yourself a transcript of his interview yesterday on the Andrew Marr show - he is committed to a referendum and could not ignore its results - although I suspect he would personally stanad down as PM and let another Tory take over to carry it out as his credibility would have been lost
