I realised listening to them sing about Gerrard and Liverpool for the entire game that that is what it must be like for other fans listening to our fans sing about Pompey. I've always disliked the Pompey chants but that was a moment of clarity.
I don't have a problem with that. I wonder if we are all a little bit 'nice' today, with this non singing of sings about a rival, even if they are not there.... ... help, I seem to be morphing into CBK
I guess United fans were stuck between who they hated least winning the title when they've had a **** season. Couldn't be easy seeing City or Liverpool battling it out for something they usually have a say in. Comes down it, they hate scousers more than blues. Guess it would be like if Pompey and errr.... errr..... uhmmmm... errr... Bournemouth? were going for the Title ahead of us. Struggled with that comparison didn't I? Carry on.
As a Chelsea fan I don't know what they were like at your place but seen off twitter that many thought they were loud. They're normally ome of the best to come to the Bridge each season and their chants are good too. Having a massive fanbase helps a lot mind. Liverpool are the most loathsome for me... On a sidenote.. I thought our fans were brilliant at yours this season. And last season in the cup game too... Went to both (and the league game where we lost where we were poor vocally) and they were two great trips!
Well, ****. I'll be rolling my eyes at the Portsmouth chants even more passionately from now on, that'll show people.
Of course Utd fans are loud and have loads to sing about!! They've won god knows how many f**king trophies over the last twenty years. I think I'd be a little more in the mood for a sing-song if Saints were the most decorated team in the country. Same goes for Chelsea fans. Yes they're good, but then they win practically every bloody game. You know what, I thought Man City's fans were good too. Can anyone tell me why that might be?! Anyway, I never said Utd fans were "terrible", I just said they were w**kers for still being anti-England after all this time, despite consistently having England players in their squad.
We (Man Utd fans) could say that about nearly every team who comes to Old Trafford for a host of reasons. When we are top dogs we sell our away allocation. When we are ****e we still sell our away allocation. Our away support is consistently made up from the same "pool" of fans for years due to our method of allocation. We will have no more fans driving "home" (sic) to Surrey for a game against you then we would for a game against Guildford ;-) Oh, and for anyone who wants to know.....we hate LFC more than anything. Man City mean nothing just now. We've had a blast on the road this season and we can only thank David Moyes for giving that to us haha
Strip away the acidic sarcasm, and I agree with CBK on this one. Agree with CBK? Blimey, that's twice this year. Just off to see my GP........
Aww, leave them alone, they were just happy to be playing down south as it means it doesn't take them as long to get home.
That's the point, the more successful a club is, the more gloryhunters & tourists it attracts. So in many ways, its harder to create a decent atmosphere when a large chunk of the crowd are just there "for the experience" or whatever. Partly why St Mary's atmosphere is worse now than ever. As said previously (and backed up by the United fan) its why the hardcore United fans have "claimed" all the away allocation to ensure those tickets don't end up in the hands of gloryhunters/plastics.
(1) Why is City the best supported club in Manchester - It isn't (2) Why do Man Utd away fans not wear colours - Protest in general. As some on here who are "in the know" have pointed out, Man Utd's away support is based generally on clued-up lads who won't support the Glazer regime and refuse to support the Glazer debt by buying anything from the club (including tickets!!!.there are lots of Man Utd fans who travel to the away game with no intention of going in unless the jib is on) (3) Why are Man Utd fans anti-England? - We're not really. We started this anti-England crap when England's Man Utd fans were picked on, bullied and abused by fellow England fans while on "active duty". It also stems from the grief certain England players received like Andy Cole, and finally we did it to annoy the fu*K out of Leicester and West Ham fans. (4) Are we bothered about City? - Not as much as we are bothered by the dirty bin dipping murderers (5) Do we clog up the roads to Surrey on the way home from every away game? - Hahaha......Yeah ok if that's what you wanna believe ;-). I don't think you have any idea how hard it is to get United away tickets and they are NEVER on general sale and they remain in the pool of the same group of fans as they have for decades (generally speaking)
It's the ones who sit in the home support who are real scum. They were in home support because they live in Soton. Total ****ers.
Why real scum? (1) So it's the lowest of the low if you support a team but live in a different city? (2) Do you personally know all of those Reds who were in the home end ;-) (3) You WILL get some "-plastic Manure" fans who never get a chance to see United at OT so do all they can when their team is playing local. So if the local home support don't buy all the available tickets then be prepared to accept whoever goes in.
1 - No, I don't support my home town. But deep down, you know why someone living on the South Coast supports Man U, and it's nothing to do with their dad being from Salford. It's the same reason why I know a few people my age who support Blackburn. 2 - No, but I had a "run-in" with one of them. His mates (Saints fans) had to tell him to shut up before he gets a slap. I don't consider any of my friends that support United real football fans. 3 - I'm mystified how he managed to get a ticket. As far as I'm aware, you had to have been to at least 4 home games to qualify for one ticket, I can only assume a Saints fan had a ticket and couldn't make it so gave it to him.
I just think its a little harsh that you compare one team's away support, to another team's home support, when every man and his dog knows that generally away fans are more vocal than home fans. Our away support has been pretty decent this season, and anyway who really has a decent atmosphere at home these days?! I've been to Old Trafford and they sung about 2 or 3 different songs, and only after they were winning. Anfield, Etihad, Emirates and White Hart Lane are all often libraries. It seems only Palace and maybe Stoke doing anything much at all.
easy to be dedicated when you have had 20 years of continued success. one season of finishing 7th isn't exactly hardship. give them 20 years of relegation scraps and im sure the majority of them would leave!
Every Club has a fanbase, they all carry out their support in a different way, I refuse to say one crowd is worse than any other, just different. Every fan has his/her own way of supporting the Club, their are no rules that say you should be loud, quiet, demonstrative or appreciative, obviously the more successful the Team is the better the support will be, Manc fans have plenty to shout about, just hope we can do the same in the future.
Have to say we may be judging ManU fans on the ones who have never or rarely get to Old Trafford. They are the ones without genuine links who are most likely to be pot hunters. I think there was a survey conducted a few years back which suggested that most fans at Old Trafford live close to Manchester. After all, we are not likely to have many fans without links to Southampton or the immediate area...this is something that Ralph wants to correct (as that is where the money is)...as revealed by him thanking the larger Southampton family who can't get to watch the team. That's as fair as I am going to be to ManU
