You would have thought that after their worst season for years, being outshone again by their Manchester neighbours and humilated by their arch rivals Liverpool that their fans may have been a little more humble and less loathsome than normal. Of course not, the usual vile bile emitting Northerners turned up with renditions of "you only came to see United" (yeah right); "you used to be s*** now you're s***" and of course the endless vitriol about Steven Gerrard. I hope many years in the wilderness will bring these fools back down to earth. Does anyone offer an opinion on a more loathsome set of away fans (clearly not bothering to mention our fishy neighbours).
"You used to be ****, now you're ****" made me laugh. It was just retaliation for a similar chant at them - we can't complain about a comeback when we say that a team finishing above us is ****.
To be honest I really rate United's away fans, they made a hell of a din for virtually the entire 2nd half. We can't moan about the "you used to be s*** now you're s***" chant because we kicked it off first. Lastly the Steven Gerrard chant is actually pretty funny, and not to the tune that we do virtually all our chants to. Can you imagine the **** we would have given Pompey players if they were in the position Liverpool were and threw it away? Well United fans were having their moment there after a pretty dire season.
I actually thought they were excellent, and to be honest they have been all season. I know most will say they deserve a season like this after all the success they have had, but their fans have always supported the team and to my knowledge, have never booed them off and didn't turn on Moyes. If it was Chelsea or City in their position, I think the fans response would be very different. I have to say, I agree with Dan on that chant, I laughed.
Ok, so I didn't realise that one of the songs was in direct retaliation which is fair enough. But my point is based on every time they come down - thinking particularly about the year their end of season defeat relegated us and their fans total glee at rubbing our noses in it. I cant' think of many oppo fans who would have been quite so vitriolic. In my humble opinion they are just a bunch of spoilt brats who could do with some footy pain of their own to appreciate what being a real fan is all about.
They've historically hated coming to us after the shirt debacle, the 6-3, the Beattie goal etc (in recent times) - perhaps they just don't like us because we hurt them.
On that note, I thought the "are you going to change your shirts" chant before half time was pretty amusing.
Manure fans will NEVER understand what it feels to be us.....Pride in our community, they just support a global brand, I would hate to be a Manure fan.
Thought they were pretty good today - far more entertaining than some of the others who have been! The 20 mins constant at the end got a bit annoying, but credit to them for keeping going with it, got to say they outsang us fair and square there
That's why I don't mind the away fans so much, what you say rings true for most of the United fans I know but God only knows what you have to do to get hold of a United away ticket, it's hard enough getting Saints ones. But I think it's pretty safe to say they must be fairly dedicated.
The one I ran into sitting in the Home support was a total ****er. Also, someone smeared **** on the toilet wall, I'm going to assume that was another one of them.
I've never understood people who do stuff like that, do they carry gloves around with them everywhere they go incase they get upset and need to 'redecorate'?
I thought I heard them still banging on about not caring for England at some point, after we sang about going to Brazil. That for me, suggests they are ****ers - noisy or not noisy.
Why just include their away fans? I put up with years of jibes because they relegated us from a chap at work...who came from Brentford and had never been to Old Trafford. He asked me once if I could get him a ticket...yeah, right! They did seem lively yesterday, but a commentator remarked they weren't always like that...end of season spirit I suppose.
- None of them were in fancy dress - None of them were wearing jester hats or had face paint on - All of them sang for 90 minutes - All of them sang very very loudly (twice as loud as the Northam with the same number, if not fewer fans) - They only had something like 30 songs compared to our majestic 5 - None of them left before the final whistle Terrible fans. Shockingly bad.
They sing about not liking/caring about England because they know it winds up sappy home fans... like ours. Lets face it, if there were no Saints players in the England squad, I suspect the vast majority wouldn't give a **** about England... certainly not enough to chant "ingerlund" at a Saints game. With Old Trafford increasingly corporate and full of "tourists" the United away support is about the only place their hardcore fans can outnumber the hangers-on. So they see it as a privilege to be an away fan & I suspect the majority of them go to every away game. But of course, terrible fans eh.
And I was going to leave you my collection of England shirts Fair play to United's away fans. I find them loathsome, but that is partly tainted with envy. They always make a noise and they always go in numbers. As CBK says, most of that lot are hard core United fans for sure.
