Toby - just because people dont like to hear it doesnt mean its not true

I did some research on 'animal cruelty' a while back and some of the not so 'acceptable' attributes are ignored

FOr example growing food for humans eg wheat actually adds to global warming due to the modification of the wheat. but because this modification is sold as 'saving lives' it doesnt even get labelled. It is grown in places like India destroying the natural habitats. The indians (mainly vegetarian by the way) dont complain as it is easy to grow and thus cheap

the pesticides used kill fish and animals. But when a cow is killed people notice, when its millions of butterflies or crickets etc no one notices. are they not animals?

Here is another misconception. The stunning of animals actually causes them more pain than 'religious slaughter'. Two studeies one in germany (1978) and one France (2005) by the ministry of agriculture confirmed this through EEG and ECG testing. Temple Gardin an american veteranarian and advocate against cruelty to animals and a leading voice also agree's. The farming union only call for stunning as it increases production. It does look easier on the eye as the animal is knockd out. but the EEG and ECG studies showed the animal was in pain and having a heart attack

    So yeah researched

Reading a couple of articles isn't research. I've been a life-long vegetarian, and I've looked into it a fair bit. You may have a couple of points but they are irrelevant to your initial statement. A few things I'll mention, without going into detail (I will if you want...)

    - Destruction of the rainforest for ranching purposes
    - Destruction of Marine ecosystems by overfishing
    - Pollution caused by mass farming/inefficiency of growing meat compared to food (on an energy cost basis)

Vegetarianism isn't perfect, as industrial farming does damage the environment a fair bit, but it's a hell of a lot better than animal farming. You need to feed the planet somehow, and doing it the most ressource-efficient way is the best.

Toby - I dont mind discussing this with you. But you need to do 2 things. Firstly dont be abusive as i 'idiotic statement' and secondly why is your comments 'research' and mine reading a couple of articles?

You make some good points its a shame to ruin them with assumptions and abuse

    Now to the point.

The examples you give are accurate to a point, as in they relate to mass consumerism. But similar if not exactly the same apply to vegetarianism in fact I would go as far as to say slavery, imperialism, militarism, class divisions, chronic hunger, and disease can all be seen as historical outcomes of over-dependence on mass cultivation.

The 'idiotic' part was down to your first statement, and I'm sorry but it's true, re-read it <ok>

Your points, as I said, are true but irrelevant to your initial statement. Crops are also grown to feed cattle, pigs,...So the poisoning bit applies to both.
