£20m does not make sense, on any level. 26 years old, four years remaining on contract, England squad, club captain, 25% sell on, massive disruption, Andy Carroll cost £35m (its always relevant), it does not make sense. Lets hope Kruger is going to be a nightmare for someone.

 

If we sell Lallana for anything close to that, especially early in the window, the next thing sold ought to be the team.

Damn right.

 

Blackmore and Peach are more trustworthy, but still, it's pretty clear someone is pedalling this and it's popping up in the same places over and over.

 

Hmmm. If it's Cortese doing it then presumably he has some sort of plan/intention/hope to return. Otherwise what's the point?

The papers printed reports of our players leaving when Cortese was here and if he was still here they would be printing the same stories. Cortese has better things to do than improve the internet traffic of our national newspapers.

 

I still think it is the people that were around Cortese then actually him.

Why does it have to be a conspiracy though? The players that have been linked away are exactly the players you would expect to be linked away after the season they've had. I'm not sure we're getting particularly more of our players linked with other clubs than any other relatively minor team who had had an impressive season.

Exactly, we sell at £20m and you'd have to seriously question what the **** is going on.

 

If we do Adam does move on, which I don't want and am unsure whether it will actually happen, then I would sincerely hope we get more than £20m for him. £5m would go to Bournemouth anyway, and as English players are always overpriced, and Adam is the best of the 'younger' talent around, £20m would be poor business.

 

But with the things he's done in the past you can see what the point of those actions was. I just can't see what the point of him doing this would be?

I'm not assuming there'll be a takeover, I just doubt Cortese would bother doing something like this unless he had something to gain from it and unless he was planning to come back I can't see what that would be?

I guess stories from people who around him before (or any people in football or the media who liked him) would make more sense but these stories are hardly unusual. Shaw has been linked with every club under the sun since before he'd even played for us, Lambert and Schneiderlin were linked with other teams while Cortese was in charge here while Lallana and Rodriguez are English and have had very good seasons. I bet half Swansea's team were linked with big clubs last summer. Off the top of my head Michu was certainly linked all over the place, I remember Williams was apparently going to Arsenal and possibly Vorm being linked to someone as well. No doubt there were others as well.

 

Didn't we get around £16m for AOC when he had no EPL experience or England cap? If the Lalana rumour is in any way close to being true the £20m quote surely has to be £20m basic plus very substantial add on's?

To me it just wouldn't make sense for a flat £20m figure unless someone with little idea of the sometimes crazy player transfer fees just looked at what he cost us and though they were looking at a perfectly reasonable profit. That's not a dig at any of the board, just idle speculation, much like the press seem to be doing

 

That's right Daily Fail. We'll tug our forelocks and look humble. For we are only little Southampton FC. We know our place.
Perhaps we stirred up the Premier League with our nasty winning ways. Can't have that can we. It's got to be the Northern clubs or the London clubs that hang around the top. We can't have England players in the team either. People might think we're bigger than we are. After all, we don't play proper football down here on the South Coast, do we. We're only here to be beaten. Let's return to normal ways and make sure that all the biggest and best known teams win. That's what people want after all. That brings in the SKY money. We want real competition. As long as the same teams win time and again. Best take away everyone who could give us a chance of beating the normal big teams. We'll never win anything down here anyway. Wonder how it'll take for plucky little Southampton to be relegated again..? Not long I should imagine.

the two words I have highlighted, to me this sounds once again like BS.

so they could both be going, they could both be staying
they could both be thinking about going to Brazil
there are so many things they could be doing or thinking about

It is about time these hacks went out of their offices and actually found a real story instead of fabricating all these rumours in case eventually they may write one that has a degree of truth in it.

 

Why would Southampton sell AL before the WC....unless they think he will be crap and better to sell him now (unlikely) or they need his value before planning starts for next season (possibly). Unless Adam is pressing hard because he wants his future settled and his mind clear before the trip to Brazil...again possibly. Twenty million doesn't sound enough though...especially minus Bournemouth's share. Fifteen million could get us a decent foreign player, but not a really top class player that Adam is threatening to become.
