With Man Utd likely to miss out on Europe next season, unless there are two miracles this season. our escape being the first, then it would seem as though United will have an abundance of strikers,RvP, Rooney, Welbeck and the possible emergence of young James wilson, given that scenario Hernandez could well only have a bit part to play next season. At the age of 26 the lad is just coming into his prime and needs first team football on a regular basis, not warming the bench I feel this lad could be the perfect foil for Connor Whickham. Obviously wages could be an issue but if we as a club wish to build on our great escape we need to push the boat out and go for quality, and this guy has it in abundance. Whats your thoughts lads.
No i don't rate the lad at all but that's my opinion if he was good he would of started alot more games than he has rooney and rvp have been out a lot this season and he hasn't taken his chance.
He's a fantastic finisher but that's about it. Has very little else to him. Borini is a better all around footballer. Think he's a mercenary s well. He had a clause in his first season for a 60k pay rise if he scored a certain number of goals. Soured them, got his pay rise and then didn't do it second season when there was Little riding on it
Unsure. He has pace and an instinct for goals that you can't teach or buy at a reasonable price. If we're going to stick with formation from recent weeks he would be unsuited to the lone striker role. Could be a plan B though. If the price is right, I'd say yes.
lets see what Sococco can do till jan, if hes good enough were ok, if not well have to look to a striker, after all he was a Gus choice
We'll know by the end of the pre-season friendlies and early August games whether Scocco is likely to fit in with GP's style coz he'll be out looking for another striker on loan. No more ****ing excuses about not being match fit!
Scocco will be fine, it's where he'll play which is the mystery. Poyets signings will make that more clear. In regards to our front three, who knows, we don't know who Poyet wants to keep yet so don't know what we need. the Future's of Graham, Jozy, Fletcher and Wickham all need to be decided before we can get an idea of whats going to happen with the main striker. But the way Elis has been running the Club we know we'll need to lose three of them if we're to gain a couple of extra forwards. Then there's Borini, we don't what's happening there, AJ needs an understudy, Giac needs competition for the other inside forward position (which a return of Borini would solve). It's an area I could speculate on as we just don't know what's going to happen.
Johnson? Admittedly Borini on the left plays more centrally, but Johnson definitely plays as a winger When Giacc came on against Cardiff he was central while Johnson and Borini were wider than him. I'd say they were playing as wingers
Borini vs United was moved out to the RW when Johnson went off, once again not hugging the line or anything, but still playing as a winger, tracking back
For me AJ is an inside forward, he doesn't hug the touchline and he's on the wrong side to play as a winger, he cuts in. He also likes to play further up the pitch than a winger does. I see our set up as three forwards (granted not as close together as a normal front three) with nobody playing the winger role at all, our width comes from the attacking fullbacks.
I see what you mean But even as inside forwards Johnson and Borini have to track the full back and they sometimes have to go down to the byline instead of coming inside. Giacc has been coming on and playing in between two inside forwards and I'd say he's able to have a bigger impact when he can just roam around the final third
Good example is when Giacc hit the post vs United Borini, by the byline, flicked it on for Altidore who crossed to Giacc who was in the middle
Well yeah, Poyet has set it up to drop into a 451, we don't have the attacking prowess, a strong enough defence or a quick enough midfield to play an out and out 433. That's why he's got the front three playing wider then you'd expect a front three to play. I've felt Giacc has been given a free role between the forwards and the midfield. He's been taking up left right and centre positions in the same games. Worked great with the tired legs about but I can't see that working over a full 90 minutes with the squad we have. Hopefully in time well build team with the natural balance to eliminate these grey area positions. But Poyet has shown his attention to detail with these adjustments and got us playing a formation and philosophy I didn't think we could with the players we have.
