When was the last season in which Man Utd won the league AND England played in the finals of a major international tournament. Racking my brains, I cant think of when it might have been. Obviously this season is a bit of an anomoly, but it seems incredible that during the ferguson years you never seemed to win the league when England were playing in a major tournament. Total coincidence or are the 2 in some way linked?!
2002 - Arsenal 2006 - Chelsea 2010 - Chelsea. Thanks to wikipedia! My point being - it is quite strange that a team that has been so utterly dominant over a 20 year period has always seemed to not win the league when the national team is playing in a tournament. Was asking it is a complete coincidence (probably) or could there be another reason...
It must be all Man United's fault. Along with the decline in the magic of the FA Cup, the decline in the quality of English players, and the disappearance of Lord Lucan.
