Just back home. Dull game beyond belief but we never really looked like conceding (or scoring) so i guess a draw a decent result Meat & potato pie, cheesy chips and a pint was pretty good. The atmosphere below the stand before the game started was fantastic. The 3,500 were in good voice and up for it Dunne looked slow and lethargic - clearly Yun should have started Hoilett still fustrates me more than he should - very little end product Our 10 min spell at the start of the second half was just what was needed but we faded again If Harry sets us up not to lose on Monday it will be a big mistake. If we take the game to them we will beat them. I suspect it will be more of the same though
Well funnily enough Wigan were playing Hull FC in Superleague tonight. Since tonight's attendance is below their average attendance for the season I bet that's where they all went...(stand at the far end of the ground) please log in to view this image ...ok, any other ideas on where they've gone?
For the first time on this site - I agree w swords... I thought it was not boring - tactical - entertaining and good result
From a neutrals POV, that was perhaps the best result. Rangers now, at some point, need to take the game to Wigan, which could make for a far more entertaining game - sadly, I still wont be getting up in the early hours to watch it.
And there was I, stuck on the freeway desperately hoping for at least a score on the all sports radio stations in Toronto. They had plenty of scores, all baseball. Had to come in and read this thread to know what went on. And full respect to the 3500 that went up to Wigan COYRs
An appalling game. If there was any chance of it being good the ref sorted that by allowing Wigan to kick us off the park. Arry played Dunne and O'NEIL who are poor, Dunne made huge mistakes, and Traore who was our only lively player on the right! Clint was ok but also could have cost us the game with mad moments. Austin and Ravel were invisible. Green error prone. Only Ned had a good game. I only remember only 2 efforts at goal, a blocked O'NEIL shot and Traore's header well over. Terrible and gives little promise for the return wrestling event.
I think you pretty much wrapped all the main points there col. Agree 100%. I was disappointed that Ravel didn't run into some of the open spaces when we were moving forwards and make the most of his limited opportunities. Hopefully he'll be much more of an impact in the most important game of the season at HQ.
The result was satisfying and it was a robust performance in a game where to expect anything other than a tense, cagey approach would be naive. Ned really was superb. I missed what O'Neil did that impressed people, and don't think I'll be watching the whole thing again to find out.....perhaps I have a blind spot for him. Austin may not have had any chances but he ran their defence ragged, they could never relax. To such an extent that mid way through the second half I was hoping he would be taken off to save something for Monday. Doyle did ok when he came on, but perhaps we need Zamora for a last hurrah when we get into extra time on Monday......
Me too. Can anyone begin to reconcile this .... http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-will-go-on-the-attack-redknapp-insists of which a couple of snippets include: "Harry Redknapp has insisted that QPR will go on the attack at Wigan in Friday’s Championship play-off semi-final first leg." "But Redknapp is adamant they will not adopt defensive tactics when the Latics have home advantage." "If I went there and didn’t have a go, I’d probably regret it for the rest of my life." and the remarkable: "The Rangers boss said: “I only know one way and that’s to be positive." with last night's match?
Can't agree there, Swords. Dunne should not be in the starting line-up and Traore on the right is ridiculous. I liked the pairing of Barton and O'Neill though. I thought Redknapp was right to take off Morrison, and I was also pleased to see that Morrison didn't like it - shows he cares.
He went for experience with Dunne and he was right IMO. Who would you have played on the right instead? Can't you see why he did it? Because Hoillett is not effective on the right at all. It was either put Hoillett on the right and lose what he gave us down the left or play Doyle out there who isn't a winger and hasn't 90 minutes in him anyway. Morrison showed himself up last night and I hope he goes around all the players today who had to treat him like a whinging child and apologises for his petulant attitude. But the first door he should knock on is Redknapp's and promises never to behave like that again. Silly boy.
I'm afraid that petulance is what you often get with talented individuals like Morrison and Taarabt - it has to be managed, and Barton did well to calm the situation. I hope Redknapp doesn't react by leaving Morrison out on Monday because we are going to need him to produce something special. Hoillet did well last night, but we lost more than we gained by switching him and Traore imo.
I can't believe some people didn't see what a good game O'Neil had. He and Barton were very good whilst outnumbered all game. Dunne was poor. Clint should start next to ned with yun at left back. I can only think that traore was on the right to protect Simpson. He must start on the left on. Monday with hoillet on the right. We must attack and take some risks. My heart won't take penalties!
It is curious that the pragmatists are in Ireland and the romanticists are in England, isn't that historically wrong?
The only conclusion I could come up with, Arry must have been scared down that side. JNR can play either side, Traore is scarily one footed for this level of football and can only play on the left. People have complained about Jnr performance and going forward yes he didn't produce much but he put a lot of effort in and got back a lot more than I would expect normally from him, I recall several occasions he was sprinting back to cover the breaks. Midfield were excellent, out numbered but held their own. Actually a sound, not pretty, well organised away performance. Towards the end you could see the worry in the Wigans players faces when they realised they may come away with nothing. First hurdle jumped another to go.
