Its the people who cant be bothered to vote are the ones that put the Tories or labour in power and then all they do is whinge when they don't like what they are doing. If you complain then get out there and vote...

I think the issue with Politics is trust? Nobody trusts the politicians of any party, and that lack of trust has undermined Westminster completely, they rule with no mandate from the real people of this country, and are simply seen as puppets of the ruling elite and big business, which has pretty much gone beyond all moral sense. I see this country as nothing more than a 'so-called democracy' if you like a 'democratic dictatorship' a 'you can do what you like, as long as you do what we tell you' type of rulership, some on here have said this is the best country in the world, but having travelled, I would take exception to that, I can think of a number of countries who's way of life is far better than here, and if you look at the poverty league table, you'll see we are far from the best!............<ok>

I couldn't disagree more with you.
Go and live in Africa and then come and tell me that religion is no longer the opium of the masses.
Religion totally dominates the lives of Africans, from the moment they are born, and for the rest of their lives.
They are totally incredulous when they encounter people like me who have no truck with it.
I refer to muslims and christians, incidentally.
I suspect it's the same in places like Brazil, although I have no knowledge of that country.
Religion and poverty are bedfellows, with the proponents of the former exploiting the poor, promising much in the way of riches when people die and go to the other place.
I found it all rather sickening and embarrassing.

You link decline of moral values with a diminution of religious belief. Again,I must disagree. You don't NEED religion to have morals.

I don't think most people believe in a supreme being. Where do you get that from? From the guy wearing the purple dress?

Africa is unique and I don't think I was referring to Africa, I was talking of the UK as the debate is regarding this Country and it's politics? I didn't get the info from your guy with the purple dress, I got it from a recent poll done, which has been in the media. Big Business, Religion, and politics are all a scam, and poverty is not far from any one of them! as for moral decline I think we will have to agree to disagree on that one, as I can see you won't want to accept that one because of your own none religious viewpoint, but the correlation between the two cannot be ignored, though it should not be interperated that none Christians have no moral compass or conscience either.

Another total scam and nice little earner for the govt
Motorists are again the brunt of a barely disguised scam concerning vehicle tax..

You will no longer be able to pass on the road tax to a new owner.
Instead, when you inform the DVLA it is sold you will get an automatic refund.

So why is that a scam ?

    Bloody simple really..

Lets say you sell your car on the 10th of 4th month it runs for
You will only get a refund for months starting the 5th month

On the other hand, if you are the buyer then you will have to tax the vehicle from the 1st of the month the vehicle is bought in

I do not have the up to date vehicle figures but:

    Quote:
At the end of 2012 there were 34.5 million vehicles licensed for use on the roads in Great Britain, of which 28.7 million (83 per cent) were cars.
So lets say 25% change a vehicle each year. That is 8.625 MILLION vehicles.
Lets also say the average VEL is £100 ( there are many that are more than that but just as many below that nowadays )

    £100/12 = £8.33

Now think about it,,, That 8.625 represents the amount of people selling their car.
There will be an equal amount ( almost any way ) BUYING a car.. So that means a total of 17.25 millions movements

    £8.33 x 17.5 million = £143,692,500

And that folks will be coming right out of YOUR pockets

On top of that how on earth is it going to be possible to tax a car the day you buy it if it is effectively already taxed ( until such time as the seller tells DVLA it is sold ) ???
Or will it suddenly be acceptable to effectively have TWO VEL's running at the same time ?

More information copied from the DVLA web site below.

    Quote:
    What this means to you
To drive or keep a vehicle on the road you will still need to get vehicle tax and DVLA will still send you a renewal reminder when your vehicle tax is due to expire. This applies to all types of vehicles including those that are exempt from payment of vehicle tax.

    Buying a vehicle
From 1 October, when you buy a vehicle, the vehicle tax will no longer be transferred with the vehicle. You will need to get new vehicle tax before you can use the vehicle.

You can tax the vehicle using the New Keeper Supplement (V5C/2) part of the vehicle registration certificate (V5C) online or by phone - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Alternatively, you may wish to visit a Post Office® branch.

    Selling a vehicle
If you sell a vehicle after 1 October and you have notified DVLA, you will automatically get a refund for any full calendar months left on the vehicle tax.

    Vehicle tax refunds
You will no longer need to make a separate application for a refund of vehicle tax. DVLA will automatically issue a refund when a notification is received from the person named on DVLA vehicle register that the:

vehicle has been sold or transferred
vehicle has been scrapped at an Automated Treatment Facility
    vehicle has been exported
    vehicle has been stolen
vehicle has been removed from the road and the person on the vehicle register has made a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN)
person on the vehicle register has changed the tax class on the vehicle to an exempt duty tax class
person on the vehicle register has taken out new vehicle tax as part of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) scheme (Standard Rate Mobility Element)
Checking the tax status of a vehicle
You can check the tax status of any vehicle online. This can also be used for rental vehicles

And it people like you sadly think thats the case and as someone who has studied politics for years then i know it is you and the like who are deluded..<ok> Low turn outs are the norm and the two main parties refuse to do anything about it as they know it benefits them.

Dai it's the people behind the politicians that decide who is PM.i think I read somewhere that the previous 10 US Presidents and British PMs all belong to a certain society.
The only way to get control back would be for the unions to tell the new Tory party (Labour) to get stuffed and create a new Labour Party with proper working class people at the head of the party and vote them into power.

I agree with you Dai, its because these idiots dont get involved themselves or vote it allows the parties to do what they want. All they are good for is sitting on the sidelines and moaning about how bad their lot is rather than try to change it. If more people voted then things would have to change. Because people are threatening to vote UKIP the Tory party has already made changes, shows democracy in action.

That's exactly correct gendrosjack. Do anybody think that the tories would offer a referendum if they was not scared of the UKIP vote. Of course they wouldn't, If you watch any tory politician from now until the general election you will see everyone of them banging on about the tories are the only part to offer a referendum if they win. I tell you now that if they should win you can bet that there will be no referendum and will put it off by ways and means, It will be too late then as we will have another 5 years of tory misery. Both the main parties are running scared because of UKIP so every vote is so important and is the only way you can try and make a change or it will be same old same old forever and a day.
