My God, if you ever want to read a load of bollocks, you can always count on Matth to provide the material.

  3. If Vidic wanted to go Man Utd would have been powerless to stop him. Only Vidic can answer the money point but not all players are motivated by money, certainly not when they are already on top dollar.

I've been listening to Vidic wanting to leave since the moment people accepted he was absolute class following his first full season. What was it again, let me remember...he doesn't like the wet Manc weather, his wife doesn't like the shopping centre, he wanted to move to sunny Italy. And yet here we are 8 years later. The general reports are that we snubbed him. Poor show on our part, he could have done a job for us despite the fact he clearly wasn't the same player he once was.

As for best defender, there have been plenty. Irwin, McGrath, Stam, Bruce, G. Neville to name a few. Btw Rio Ferdinand (before the back injury) for me was a better 'footballer' and defender than Vidic. He was excellent at reading the game, positionally sound but what he excelled at was his confidence on the ball, to be able to bring it out, often to the half way line! I remember when he came back after his ban and his first game was against Liverpool, he absolutely bossed the game. Such a shame his back injury fcked up his career :(

  5. As much as I don't like him, Rio in his prime was better than all the others including Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Vidic and Stam!

Yeh agree although I loved Irwin as well who imo is the best LB we ever had. When I look back at his attitude and now at Evra, I can't help despising him.

Rio was the standard for other defenders in his prime.

Dependable Dennis is the best left back i have seen play for United (in my time), it is hard to say who the best defender is because fullbacks and centre halfs do different jobs. Someone made a good call with McGrath, i would also like to add Buchan to that as a very polished center half i have actually seen play.

    Buchan was before my time.

A bit off topic but Diego do you like a player called Garrincha?

Not sure what all the fuss about Evra's attitude is from. Is real problem isn't just isn't good enough anymore. I'd argue that Evra and Vidic care more about United than anyone in our current squad minus Giggs.

There's no fuss, it's obvious from his body language, the way he makes no real effort to put tackles or blocks, or the way he allows runners to get away from him in the box. Not talking about tracking back, that would be harsh as I think his legs have gone and he simply can't keep doing that for 90 mins anymore. No, I'm talking about when he's already back defending, and it's become progressively worse over the last couple of seasons.

I'm not being harsh, I can tell the difference between a poor player giving his all (Young and Valencia) and a poor player who doesn't care anymore (Evra and Carrick). If as you say, the likes of Evra demonstrate the most care for United then heaven help us.

I think you could put Raphael and Welbeck in there too.

If you genuinely think Carrick and Evra are poor players, then I'd question your understanding of the game. 3CL finals, 1 triumph, and 5 title victorys from 7. The 2 title losses, 1 by a point, and the other on goal difference. So not sure how we could do that with 2 'poor' players in our side.

Both where class acts, and Carrick in particular was hugely underrated. A much better player than people gave him credit for. With the exception of Scholes, he was the best passer that the England team has had for a very long time:biggrin:

I said one of the few (l2r). Also I think red nose was the difference in a number of your titles, a number of your reg first team are good but def not great.

Saying "are" poor players is different to saying "were" class acts. I agree as I rated both. From a period of 2008-10 I considered Evra to be the best LB in the country. But he has declined season after season and now IS a poor player. Carrick I rated also, but where he excelled wasn't in his passing (although this was good), but his ability to anticipate and intercept - a talent which meant he didn't need to tackle as much. But once again, he has declined season after season. Otherwise why have fans been crying out for a creative CM for the last 2/3 seasons? But what is unforgivable from both is their piss poor attitude this season to top it off.
