    iPhone? Blackberry? Android?

I've a Blackberry Curve 8520 (it was free - only cost £15 to have it 'unlocked'). I don't use it for the Net, as reception is piss-poor where I live.

OLM, if I recall, has an iPhone (along with an iPad).

    What has anyone else got?

The reason I'm asking is that, if I choose to use the Net, the Blackberry has a relatively tiny number of Apps. iPhone probably has the most, but the Android OS phones - such as Samsung and HTC - are catching up fast.

    Any ideas, recommendations?

My missus has the HTC Desire (Android) which is a really excellent phone, even better if you get the HD. If you want apps though, I think the iPhone is the way to go. Everything is on there first.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini with Android OS. It's a very clever little thing, but unfortunately it's an 'entry-level' smartphone, meaning it's technical performance isn't too impressive. It's a little bit slow at times, but it never hinders anything I do. The apps (and most importantly the not606 app) are best on iPhone or Android. Personally I think BlackBerries are a bit poo, but some people who have them say they would never get anything else now because they love the BlackBeryy Messenger thing which is basically an instant messenger.

Basically, I'd reccomend one of the powerful Androids such as a HTC. But if you want to spend a bit less, get mine. It doesn't lack much for the discount you get. It's about £15 a month on 3 with pretty much unlimited internet and unlimited texts.

I have a Samsung Galaxy (Android). Good phone, good internet for what you want (Facebook, YouTube, Sky News etc) and lots of apps to download. I found I Phones too pricey for my student budget but this has been a nice alternative and gives me what i want. Plus, it hasn't broken yet (touch wood!) which a few people seem to have with Blackberrys.

I'm yet to see an iPhone that doesn't have a massive crack in the screen, caused by a gust of wind or something. They're the Ritchie Appleby of phones I swear.

My kids have all had or have Blackberries, my missus has an iPhone and I have a Samsung Galaxy S.

First off BBs, wouldn't touch one with a bargepole. Theres ALWAYS something wrong with one of my girls phones or their mates. Buttons break, the software is ****e. Horrible things.

Secondly, it boils down to iPhone v Galaxy for me. Theres NOTHING you can do on an iphone you cant do on any decent android, but the Galaxy is just head and shoulders above the iphone. Better screen, better camera, quicker, and it doesnt need itunes which is a massive bonus as that piece of bloated ****e is horrible.

If you want a phone thats better than an iphone, get a Samsung Galaxy, if you can afford the S2, thats even better, but the S1 is still ahead of the iphone. If you want to look cool and your mates are pretentious shallow arseholes, get an iphone! :)

How can you tell if someone has an iphone? They tell you!

Yeah - leaning that way mate. BB doesn't impress me much (though, as it was free, and the first smartphone I'd had, I was initially impressed).

Samsung Galaxy is highly rated, with HTC (though what model?) pretty close.

My problem here is that only Orange and Voda have any kind of coverage. My local used to be full of engineers on call, in the afternoon, with no mob coverage..<laugh>

Agreed with the iPhone thing! I had a friend though who was standing by a boiling kettle when they were making a cuppa and the steam had gone into the blackberry and messed it up! Compared to the old school phones of pre 2005 some of these smart phones don't half break easy. My nan has had the same Nokia 3310 for 6 years and it's still going strong.

Never had a HTC but they get good reviews. Don't orange have some sorta deal with O2 for coverage or something? Im with Vodaphone and tbh have found it really good, although I live in Cambridgeshire and work in London or MK,

Oh and the Galaxy battery life....way better than the witches iphone. It's good practice to let ANY smartphone fully discharge once every 2 weeks or so, then charge up to full. Rest of the time, trickle "top up" style charging is fine (theres no memory like in the olden days). When mine gets to about 13% left though, getting it to go totally flat is sodding hard work!

It's too simplistic to say "android phones are crap with battery life", its the phones not the OS, and theres some ace apps anyhow that let you squeeze the most of it, juice defender and Advanced Task Manager are 2 that spring to mind.

Also, generic advice, dont be having GPS, Wireless, Bluetooth etc etc all enabled all the time, on any smartphone, unless you need them on, s'silly otherwise and drains batteries.

Not that I know of, but they've just done one with T-Mobile. Is that what you were thinking of?

I've got the HTCHD7. This is the best phone I've ever had (I've had Iphones and BB's). The windows OS is really smart and the camera is brilliant. Having microsoft office on your phone is really useful for me. I also make my own games/apps for it when I can arsed. For some of my Uni Coursework this year I got to make a game that could run on an xbox or windows 7, I submitted to the marketplace and I've got £300 from it so far.. If you're interested in that kind of thing (probably not) it's really easy to make your own stuff.

My only real complaint is the lack of decent apps. There is nowhere near as many as on the Iphone, but it is catching up quick.

My daughter has Blackberry's, but she seems to buying a new one on ebay every month, as they keep breaking down. To be fair, I think she drops it a lot.

As has been mentioned, I have a iPhone, I've had one for years and I've never broken the screen(you careless bunch) and I still like it, though I still use a 3, I don't like the 4 so much and I think the 5 comes out soonish. It's still the daddy, though iTunes is a bit of a ball-ache and the battery life is ****.

iTunes is awful unless your using a Mac (which I doubt).

You don't realise how bad it is until you've used something else for a few weeks.

I have an iphone and out of 100 rate them 100! they do everything you need and are very reliable! Also the apps from apple are far better!

Also OLM the battery life is good on the 4, I can play music for most of the day for 2 days and it still has life left.
