If Magath stays I'm sure there will be a few targets a few of us unaware of but there are a few players we could go for! Some of the below maybe unlikely but slightly possible but please let's not have any impossibles like messi and Ronaldo Cresswell - Ipswich Ince - Blackpool out of contract Holtby - tottenham Kvist Rhodes - Blackburn McCormack - Leeds Bamford - Chelsea Bannan - Palace
I think most of those are more than unlikely, Cookie. McCormack would be great, but we'd only get him if Leeds are still strapped for cash. I strongly suspect that most of the others will more likely be going to Premier league sides or staying put. Genuine question: has Bannon been playing at Palace? If he has, it's hard to see why he'd choose to drop down a division. If he's frustrated at not getting first team action that may be a different story. Here are some names to add to the pot: Neil Taylor (Swansea, left back, 25) Jason Pearce (Leeds, centre-back, 26) Eunan O'Kane (Bournemouth, centre midfield, 23) would be excellent for us, but I doubt Bournemouth would sell him to a Championship rival (which is how they are going to see us now). Even if they would, we might do better to save our money and give a chance to one of our existing young midfield hopefuls (Minkwitz?) and put the transfer money to use for different positions.
Captain I would happily take all three of your suggestions, as for Bannan he hasn't been playing at Palace he is a player that always impresses me and is a creative midfielder In terms of how much we spend I don't think it's inconceivable that we have a big clear out and let the manager keep any funds to spend! We could get £15 million for Mitroglu, Ruiz and hangeland
Just watching the play offs and how about Andre Wisdom as a transfer target, young a much needed defender, affordable and has played regularly in a good Derby team this season
Cookie - apologies, just posted about the play-offs on the "First Team next Season" thread before reading your post. Felix was at the Brighton v Derby game tonight so maybe your boy caught his eye.
Personally, I hope we don't spend any money signing promising youngsters this summer. We've got promising youngsters coming out of our ears; what we need is a few well-chosen experienced heads to help the youngsters make the transition from potential stars to first team regulars. I don't mean we should be signing veterans, but players in their mid 20s with lots of first team experience is what I think we need to add. I don't think there's any area of the pitch where we couldn't name a handful of our existing young players who have a chance of breaking through, so let's spend the money to help create the environment where they can flourish, not just adding more inexperience to the mix.
Like most Championship teams we'll be looking at the players who might be released by promoted Teams and those Premier and Championship teams who are failing financially, along with players who have disputes with their club. Some suggestions Stuart Taylor(GK) - Reading (on a free) Dixon (LB)- Huddersfield Caddis (RB) - Birmingham Tom Smith (CB) - Ipswich McCormack (ST)- Leeds Varney (ST)- Leeds Danns (CM)- Leicester Le Fondre (ST)- Reading
I don't think we should go for Taylor unless we plan to make him the number 1, which would be very harsh on Stockdale. I like the sound of either Le Fondre or, as others have also suggested, McCormack. I don't know a lot about the rest of your names, but most of them look like the right age/experience balance to me. I'm not convinced by Varney, but that's more on the basis of his stats than actually judging him as a player. Dann won't be joining us, as he's already signed a deal to join Bolton (where he's been on loan) once his Leicester contract expires.
Felix is said to be interested in 23 year old defender Steve Cook of Bournemouth. Don't know if CB or Rb is his best position. Any insights on him Captain? Source: http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/spor...fulham-eye-swoop-bournemouth-defender-7095405
Bournemouth fans love him. I think he's a full back, but I'll need to check that. However, I heard this week that Palace had made an approach and Cook said he wanted to stay at Bournemouth. If the prospect of playing in the Premier League doesn't tempt him, I can't see him coming to us even if Bournemouth would let him go to a rival. I don't see this one happening.
Emmanuel Frimpong is currently a free agent, if we could manage to help him reach his potential he'd be a very good signing.
Andre Wisdom - Right Back Ryan Betrand - Left Back Barry Bannan - Centre Mid ??????????? - Centre Back
Not exactly but in fairness he only started 2 games and came on as a sub for 4, not exactly a lot of time to make your mark. He was impressive in the couple of games with Wolves before he got injured. He's only 22 and a hungry CM that I think could become a very good player.
Postscript on Steve Cook. I was wrong in thinking he was primarily a full back. My mate says he's a pacy centre-back who can play at full back (better on the left than the right). He's not the tallest, but he's good on the ball. He'd be a good foil for someone like Burn, but as I said before, I'd be very surprised if he wanted to leave Bournemouth for another championship side - good things are happening there, and if he's turned down the premier league, it's hard to see why he'd come to us just now.
It will be interesting to see what style Magath will have in the transfer market. Will he be up front and tell all the press, who we are after who we missed out on. Or will the club do it's usual secret squirrel act before announcing at the last minute. I suspect with his belief that Fulham would stay up, Felix might have had a few players already tapped up, but now what happens, they'd probably have come if still in Premier. Wonder if Felix is off to Brazil on a bit of a German media trip or is he staying behind and getting on with it. Apart from the Florida trip wonder what other friendlies are setup. A trip to the hills of the Swiss Alps? To kill a few players off he doesn't want in the squad Interesting summer ahead.
