I think Lennon would do the best job. He's a strong manager and that's certainly something we could use. Steve Clark is another good shout. He got harshly treated at WBA, who still aren't technically safe and have picked up less points per game under pep Mel than they did under Clark!

Malky seems the obvious choice and I'd certainly be happy with that. I hope they don't give it to Adams as I can see that going the way of Gunn all those years ago!

according to twitter, malky's legal case against cardiff city has been settled (or dropped - seems to be some conflict between the reports) so i wonder whether this has happened because he has a job already lined up?

    unveiling on sunday????

just putting it out there ;)

I disagree, I think Adams is far, far better equipped to manage a football team than Gunny - though that's not saying a lot and I still wouldn't want him to get the job next season. I think it all points to Malky personally, and I can't say I'd be too disappointed if the board took that direction, it would be the sensible one after all.

I'm not really keen on Malky, I'd rather Adams remain as manager than him tbh.

I think Adams would represent too great a risk in what will be a very important season. I do however think he's been good enough to deserve some first team involvement next season, as assistant maybe or an attacking coach.

on what basis? seems a slightly odd conclusion to draw when you bare in mind malky's track record and adams, err... well, he doesn't have a track record

I just think if we get Malky we may as well have kept Hughton. Not saying NA should be made full time manager but just saying I'd rather have him than Malky.

    lambert?

it would be a 'no' from me because i think the job he did here was so astonishing and i just don't feel he could ever replicate that success again. i don't think it would be a good fit at this time. he was the right guy at the right time when he took over in 2010.

back to malky, who i'm fairly sure will be our new manager, take a look at his wiki page if you're a 'doubter'. at the end of the day, we aren't going to get everybody to agree on a new manager and some will be disappointed but i think his appointment would be the most sensible, practical and most likely to get the majority of fans pulling in the same direction.

    ----- from wiki

Mackay signed a three-year contract as Cardiff City manager on 17 June 2011, with Watford receiving an undisclosed fee in compensation. His reign began with a 1–0 away win over West Ham United. The side were undefeated in September, resulting in Mackay being nominated for the September Championship Manager of the Month in his first month managing the Welsh club. Another unbeaten month for Cardiff resulted in Mackay winning the award in November. He guided Cardiff to their first ever League Cup final, following wins over Oxford United, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City, Burnley, Blackburn Rovers and Crystal Palace in earlier rounds. The week before the League Cup final, Mackay signed a three-and-half-year contract extension, tying him to the club until June 2016. Mackay's side were beaten by Liverpool in the Wembley final, losing 3–2 on penalties, with a 2–2 scoreline after extra time. Cardiff's season ended where it began, as they were beaten by West Ham United in a two-legged Play-Off Semi Final.

Following the success of his first season in Wales, Mackay was reportedly one of the candidates to replace Paul Lambert at Premier League side Norwich City, however on 4 June 2012, Mackay turned down the offer to return to his former club and said he was fully committed to Cardiff City. Mackay oversaw Cardiff's strongest ever home start to a league season, as they won each of their first ten fixtures at Cardiff City Stadium, the previous club record being nine consecutive home wins. Mackay went on to lead Cardiff to promotion to the Premier League, and sealed the Championship title after a 1-1 draw away at Burnley. Mackay was voted the LMA Championship Manager of the Year on 21 May 2013. During the 2013-14 season, Mackay came under criticism from club owner Vincent Tan concerning his signings, transfer budgets, results and style of play. In December 2013, Tan told Mackay to resign from the club or be sacked, leading to critical media comment not only of the decision but of Tan's tactics, one commentator referring to Tan as "The world's thickest Machiavelli".

a play off semi final. a major cup final appearance. a league title. championship manager of the year this time last year.

we'd be daft not to give him a go

I can't see the board seeing Adams as the "cheap option" at all. The majority of the decisions made by the board since the reshuffle have been thinking long-term, not trying to pinch every penny they can, when they can. If we were trying to be cheap in the short-term we'd not have spent a penny on the squad the last two seasons and got the debt paid off sooner.

If/when Adams fails to get us promoted quickly, any money saved on his wages will have been lost many times over by the cost of not being in the Premier League. If there was a manager that would guarantee us promotion, then I could easily see the board dropping £10m to bring him here. We'd make that back as soon as we got promoted.

Now obviously things aren't as black and white as that, so the board have to balance the cost of the manager against the risk of being in the championship for several seasons. But seeing as manager's are barely in the job a year wherever they go, I'm fairly sure they'll feel confident to pay a top championship/lower Prem salary to the first new man to take over.

Whilst things are going to be tougher financially in the championship than they were in the Prem, we're in a much better position to bounce back than last time we got relegated from the Prem. I suspect nearly every player will have significant relegation clauses in their contracts, and unlike Worthy's signings, an awful lot of them have significant resale value despite poor seasons. Clearly there's going to be big changes around the club this summer, but what championship team would you trade places with?

Of the relegated clubs, Fulham have a squad of old, high wage earners they're going to struggle to shift or pay. Cardiff have a crackpot in charge who could easily storm off in a huff. QPR are probably going to be stung by FFP if they don't go up. Leeds might have a fresh injection of cash, but nobody else has any real money to play with. No doubt the play-off sides, Ipswich, Blackburn and Reading will look to challenge, but there's nobody in the league we should be afraid of. Bring it on.

Malkey would be a good option i reckon but my first choice would be lambert as he knows how to play the game. Villa could not master his style but norwich would. Its not the first or the last time a manager has gone back to his former club...If we never promoted monk then i would not mind lambert for us.

No disrespect to Malky, but Iwan wouldn't come out and say that his mate wasn't up to the job and it shouldn't be give to him would he ?

The more I find out about Malky's managerial record, the more I like the sound of him coming in.

    Saw this on twitter too...

No nonsense. Hard working. No cliques. Sounds just what we need.

As for a Lambert, whether we want him or not, he won't want to work with DM again and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
