Do any of the lads who go to the reserve and youth games have any opinion of this lad yet?
As you will see... Beardo speaks very highliy of him.

Peter Beardsley has hailed 18-year-old Rolando Aarons as Newcastle's brightest young star.

Aarons became the latest Newcastle youngster to sign a professional contract with the club following Lubo Satka and England Under 17 pair Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman who made the promotion from the club academy last month.

Aarons, who joined from Bristol City two years ago, was part of the first-team squad for the game at Fulham in March.

In black and white: Rolando Aarons is tipped to enjoy a bright future at Newcastle by Peter Beardsley

'He's just signed a new contract with Newcastle and is someone the club are quite excited about,' said Beardsley, Newcastle's Football Development Manager. 'He's like a flying left winger with good ability - really good ability.'

Aarons will be Newcastle's star man at the Citibank Soccer Sevens in Hong Kong at the end of this month.

'It'll be a great experience for him in Hong Kong. He'll be the standout for our team,' Beardsley added.

'He's good running on the ball, which is what you need on a pitch like that, and he's one that we've got high hopes for in the first team. He's probably the main one. We expect him to do good things.'

Saw him in the U21 game vs Chelsea and thought he was our best player.

Only time I've seen him though. He's very positive and likes to get on the ball and run with it. He's all left foot which meant he hugged the line quite well.

Again though, only saw him the once and it wasn't the best of streams.

If he's good enough for Pedro he's good enough for me.

Pedro knows a thing of two about a player.

Crossing, dribbling, set pieces, finishing, first touch, ability to use 2 feet... what's Rolando got?

If he's as good as Beardo says, he needs to be in the First Team squad next season.
No messing about loaning him out somewhere in the lower leagues, where he'd more than likely just end up being kicked to death.

Another "new" signing. To be honest though I'm all for promoting the likes of him, Armstrong and Kemen. Even if they all turn out to be not quite good enough, we have to start breaking down the wall to the first team. When youngsters are deciding which academy to join (the best get a choice), they look at the reputation of the academy, whether there is an open route to the first team, and obviously some like to join their boyhood club. We don't want to be relying on solely the latter category. There may be some short term pain trying youngsters who aren't quite the grade, but actions speak louder than words when it comes to gathering te best young talent.

A couple of family jewels would raise the profile no end though.

There's nothing more exciting than producing local talent. All we need to do is develop their technique and the academy will prove to be a conveyor belt like it is at Schalke. Like any sport it helps to be quick and strong but if a player is absent of strength or speed then that's ok but his technique has to be there or he's just another league/non-league player.

Saw him play once in an under 21 game against Liverpool and he did stand out as a talent. Hopefully one with a bright future, but with Mr Ashley about, not necessarily in Black and White.
Nevertheless good to see some talent coming through the academy.

Saw him playing against Whitley Bay and he stood out as a real talent. Got the complete game in him. Some of the other youngsters would have shown some of our supposed first team players a thing or two too!

Saw him live for the Chelsea game and he was certainly our most exciting player. Reminded me of thin HBA: would be apparently trapped down the by line with two defenders on him and then would do some jinky thing with the ball and be running in on goal with the defenders chasing his heels.

Had the usual greediness which tends to go with that sort of talent but if he keeps it up and can learn to look for a pass he could be great

There's fair difference between the 1st tier of English football and the 9th tier. Fingers crossed for the lad but there's been too many false dawns for me to get excited just yet.

Another year, another batch of "starlets" who will mildly impress at 18, go out on loan, fail to make the cut at an average Championship/Scottish team, then get released at 21-23, and end up playing in League One... (Andy Carroll not included...)
