The 29-year-old midfielder is to depart Ashton Gate this summer, following news that his contract is not to be renewed. Although he looks back fondly on his time in BS3, Elliott admits now is the right time to move on to pastures new. He told bcfc.co.uk: “The highlight came in the first season, reaching the play-off final in 2008 – the whole season really. The worst part was relegation last season. “I arrived in Bristol at the age of 22. I’d been at Millwall for ten years prior to that, but everyone ensured it was easy to settle in at Bristol City. The fans were great throughout – and I want to thank them for that. “It’s been a great time and I’ve loved being here, as well as the city itself.” He added: “I want to thank Gary Johnson for bringing me to Bristol City, and everyone has been great to me. “I’ve been around a long time but still feel I have lots to give. This will be a new chapter in my life now and a fresh start.” Elliott added "One fan I would like to thank especially is a guy called Shiny on the football forums, I've read his support over the years and he has always backed me, what a great fan" Elliott made 262 appearances for City, scoring 27 goals. The defender, 28, is one of a number of players whose contracts won’t be renewed this summer. Fontaine made 294 appearances for City and was a promotion winner in 2006/07. Speaking to bcfc.co.uk, the Londoner said: “Being at one club for so long is quite an achievement and I’ve met lots of good people in my time here. “The best bit was promotion from League One and then the season straight after when we reached the play-off final. “I’ll always cherish my time at Bristol City and enjoy looking back on it. The city of Bristol is fantastic and my family have grown up here. “But I totally agree with the gaffer (Steve Cotterill), I think now is the right time to move on. “I’m ready for a new challenge and looking forward to whatever the future holds for me.“As well as the good times at Bristol City, there have also been some challenging times, but I think I’m better for that experience. “I’ll remember those who always stuck by me and many of those people remain close friends to this day.” Fontaine added: “I can see a brighter future at the club, with the gaffer in place now. He’s been A1 with me since he arrived and kept me in the loop with his plans. “I’m sure he’ll get the club back in the Championship before long.” Stephen Pearson please log in to view this image Stephen Pearson predicts Bristol City fans will be celebrating again in the years to come. The departing midfielder, who enjoyed two-and-a-half seasons at the club, believes the club is on the right path to success after watching the team secure a top-half finish under Steve Cotterill. He told bcfc.co.uk: “I had good times at Bristol City. Obviously there were some ups and downs. “The relegation last season was a disappointment but I still enjoyed my time at the club. “I think the club’s on a good footing. I’m sure it will be nearer the top end of the table next season. It’s a good club with some great people there. “The supporters were always brilliant with me, despite being through some tough times during the last couple of years. “I think they’ll be cheering again soon; there are brighter times ahead with the stadium redevelopment and the way the team has finished this campaign.” As for his own future, Pearson said: “I’ve nothing planned at the moment. I’m heading back up to Scotland and I’ll go on holiday, then I’ll see what comes my way.” The 31-year-old, who made 73 appearances for City, says scoring the only goal away at promotion-winning Southampton in December 2011 was his highlight.
Fair play to all of them, especially Marv Fontaine came in for a lot of stick before he went to Yeovil (some of it was also justified) but it goes with the territory and could happen to anyone.
Good servants all Surprised we didn't hang on to Pearson though. I guess its because of his salary, which must still have been at Championship rates. Otherwise, the most likely to remain a player and return to AG one day...
They all contributed and played with the pride that the shirt expects. Wouldn't be surprised if at least two ended up at Yeovil if GJ stays there or maybe Oldham as Junior would likely be a good fit.
