I must confess, I looked it up off the back of Munky's comment. I'd never heard of the guy, so I read a bit of his Wikipedia entry.
Me neither, never heard of him and just googled your signature. It could have been worse, it could have been a Gary Barlow
I find it hilarious how many fans, even many of our own are ridiculing RvW, how soon we forget, he scored against Everton in his very first Premiership game, he was then seen on crutches, we were informed that he had injured his toe. Despite this injury he played several more games, either as first choice, or as a sub, we then found out that hie injury was "turf-toe" - look it up, the very worst thing you can do is carry on playing, it is potentially career threatening, is it any wonder he didn't live up to his pre-season hype? It's not very classy to mock the afflicted, which is why we generally don't mock Ipswich fans!
Personally I hope he will stay, I still think he will do well for us especially in the Championship. I know he hasn't had a great season, but sometimes foreign players can take a season to settle in. Plus I do feel a bit sorry for him, you can tell he's massively lacking in confidence, hopefully he'll get it back.
Er, I don't know how to say this Dave but ................................................................. "I agree with every word of that !"
Our team was never set up to provide 'fodder' for him and on several occasions when he was in line with the opposition defenders, team mates wouldn't/couldn't pass to him. I'd like to see him stay and feel that he could make a real name for himself in the championship against weaker defenders!!!!
I was in Holland land week speaking to some Utrecht fans and they said he was over rated when he was there. I haven't seen anything to prove them wrong. I'd imagine he'll move away on loan next year to somewhere like PSV.
I was in Portugal in March and got talking to local waiters in a cafe about football. The inevitable conversation turned to "who do you support" Their reaction to my reply of Norwich City reduced them to fits of laughter, reference RVW. They all agreed that he was rubbish, and glad to see the back of him. Need I say more.
If he looked like Iwan Roberts and was called Ricky van Smith then he'd be worth 850k and would still be playing for FC Utrecht. I fear we signed a dud here, though you have to admit the header for his only goal was an absolute peach - can you believe how hard we would have laughed if somebody had told us that day it was the only goal he was going to score?
Sporting only scored three goals less than Benfica this season, doesn't look like RVW not being there has affected them too much. We've got to get rid and build a team for the Championship. Sooner we get a permanent new manager in the better.
