Looking back on results this season, there was one game which Norwich thought they had won, only to be denied by the Ref after Leroy Fer had his goal against Cardiff disallowed in City's 0-0 draw at Carrow Road. Had the Ref allowed the goal to stand, City would now be on 35 points instead of 33 (1 point behind WBA) needing just a win against Arsenal on Sunday and hoping WBA failed to pick up 3 points in order to stay up. I am sure there are probably other situations this season, where if certain decisions had gone our way or certain players either played (eg Hoolahan, Becchio) or took the free kicks/pens we were award instead of some others (eg. Pen against Villa) results would have been different and we would have picked up more points
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride If turnips were swords, I'd wear one by my side If ifs and ands were pots and pans, there'd be no need for tinkers' hands. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. If turnips were watches, I would wear one by my side. And if "ifs" and "ands" Were pots and pans, There'd be no work for tinkers! If wishes were horses, Beggars would ride; If wishes were fishes, We'd all cast our lines I think that covers it
This is all a bit silly to be honest, our season does not revolve around things not going our way. There is a reason these individual events build up to lead to relegation, its because we consistently haven't been good enough to combat them like the others who did survive.
And if we hadn't have conceded so many ****ing goals again & again we'd have still been in with a shout ! Just watched the Brighton v Derby game, we'd struggle to beat either of those teams atm, it's certainly not going to be a cake walk next season.
Just what I was trying to get across Cotswold, this is not a gripe at getting relegated but at the way in how it was done, when we could so easily have avoided it had correct decisions been made whether from officials, management or players. For example, in the game against Villa Snodgrass should never have taken the penalty in the first place, we went on to lose 1-0, Why wasn't Wes given more games? we missed his creativity in midfield, Becchio should have been given more chances up front than Elamander, (whose goal scoring record was as bad as RVW) was, Instead of playing Bassong in defence, who was responsible for many of the goals we conceded and had lost the form from last year, we should have played Ryan Bennett instead. The decision not to bring in a play-maker in the January transfer window such as Holtby but instead sign Jonas on loan did not help our survival chances, Jonas did nothing for City whereas Holtby would have created chances for Hooper & RVW I am not saying we would have definitely avoided relegation, but we would have had a greater chance of avoiding it if better decisions had been made this season so that the team could have scored more goals & conceded less. If we are going to make an attempt for the top 2 next season, we need to make sure we make the correct decisions for next season, starting with appointing the right manager. The right manager will sign the right players, play the right tactics, which should get us the right results.
I'd forgotten about the goal that never was, I said at the time it should have stood and I stand by that (stood, standing ...)
Re: Elmander, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't his scoring record better than Van Wolfswinkel's? I believe both have one league goal each (Ricky's coming on the opening day against Everton and Elmander's against Southampton) but I also seem to remember Elmander banging in a couple in the cup for some reason. I also think Elmander has more assists than Ricky which is impressive considering which of the two has had the more play time. I also feel Johan Elmander added something to the team even without scoring or creating goals with his workrate and strength. I have never seen defenders look more comfortable against any striker this season then against our less-than-prolific Dutch hitman in contrast to the Swede who at least gave them some grief. I think he played a good game against Chelsea to demonstrate what he can offer in tough games.
it breaks my heart looking back at all them games we could so easily have won, i can count at least 6 which if we had got just a single better result we wouldnt be facing the trap door. The goal difference tells the complete story though and based on that which probably relagate us with us on same points as WBA, the fact is we deserve it, but it was just so avoidable..
When we were leading Cardiff 0 - 1 away and collapsed for 5 minutes is another one I still think about. There's so many soft goals we let in and was so avoidable that it could have been so easily different.
