After the way he was miss-treated by that lot, i'm glad he has a new job, and also something he would never ever have had at ne1..A shot at europe. Skysports.com understands Chris Hughton has won the race to be Birmingham's new manager and should put pen to paper on Wednesday. Hughton is close to tying up a deal to become Alex McLeish's replacement at St Andrews with terms close to being agreed on a 12-month rolling contract. The former Newcastle boss has edged ahead of rival candidate Roberto Di Matteo in the battle to take charge of Blues. Hughton has been out of football since parting company with Newcastle after a 3-1 defeat at West Brom in early December, despite the Magpies being in mid-table in the Premier League in their first year back in the top flight following promotion
I found it quite shocking the way that the skunks fans very quickly forgave Ashley for Sacking him...
Was chatting to a lad I work with this morning who said that just after half time the Skunks fans started singing "Pardew, Give us a wave" but by full time the same fans wanted him sacking!!!
Can't remember singing that at the Sunderland game. That chant has been aired a couple of times I must admit, but that's not the point. Pardew never did a bad job and we back our manager, but it doesn't mean to say we are happy with the Chris Hughton sacking, no point complaining about it week after week. I personally don't trust Pardew, but what can I do?
I think Pardew has done canny, but i don't think he did any better than Hughton would have. I'm inclined to think Hughton was chopped to smooth the Carroll sale, but maybe that's me being cynical.
I like Alan Pardew and think he deserved his chance to manage a bigger club like Newcastle Utd. As long as he can hack the constant interference from the owner and the ambition of the fans, I think he will go on to do well at SJP. I think both sides of the divide agree that Ashley's treatment of Chris Hughton was an utter disgrace and I wish him luck in his new job at Birmingham.
Hughton willdo well for Brum, once he's confirmed, i will have a little bet on them for the Championship title.
I'm in two minds as to how well I want Chris to do. Part of me thinks I want him to do well to shove it up MA and prove him wrong. But part of me wants him to fail as I will be gutted if we miss out on a top class manager.
I think he'll do well, as i think his main strength is in his manner, and how he puts himself accross, the whole country backed him when he got ****ed over, that's a respect not often seen. He will improve as a manager for another season down there, and will go on to be a good manager, but i don't think you have to worry about him hitting 'top class'.
