<peacedove>Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has revealed that he wants to go back to his former club Ajax.

The PFA Player of the Year, who has scored 31 goals thus far this season for Liverpool, revealed that his heart lies with the Dutch club and will do everything in his power to go back.

Suarez transferred to Anfield in January 2011 and has been a revelation since then, scoring goals for fun and has single-handedly helped the Reds challenge for the title this season.

The news will come as a major shock for Liverpool supporters, who have already been scarred by the player's antics last summer when he threatened to leave the club for Arsenal, who had put in a bid worth £40m.

The Uruguayan insisted that he owes Ajax, where he has scored 81 goals in 110 appearances, for much of his development and that he would love to be part of their setup in the future.

"I've always said on one day I will return at Ajax. Even if the manager doesn't want me, I'll go. For sure!" Suarez told Helden Magazine.

"Ajax was a very important step in my life. My wife Sofia and I are crazy about Amsterdam and the lifestyle, the respect from and for everyone. We had a happy life and could live there in peace. We walked a lot through Amsterdam.

"Ajax was the ideal club for me and I learned a lot there. I credit Ajax for teaching me to use both feet, but also how to play without the ball and how to be a team player.

"[Former manager] Martin Jol gave me a lot of confidence. I was honoured when he made me captain of the team and I felt responsible," he added.

However, Suarez is unlikely to leave for Ajax anytime soon, having secured Champions League football with Liverpool, and is currently being linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Uruguayan is among the most coveted strikers in world football and is likely to be the subject of a lot of bids in the summer.

Classic lazy bait-and-click journalism. Nowhere in the article does it say he wants to leave Liverpool to return to Ajax. He obviously would like to return to the Ajax set up at some stage, probably when his playing career is ending.

  4. Love that quote. He's wanted to return to Ajax yet he only left there a massive three years ago!

Not giving a **** who the manager is is quite amusing too. Surely the manager would have a say in that <laugh>

They really are desperate to get him out of our team, aren't they?
Is there any club we haven't been told he wants to go to?

This sums up the standard of journalism in that article.

If Ajax coughts up £200,000,001 then they could have him this summer and I would give my blessing.

The key word is "I've always said on one day I will return at Ajax. Even if the manager doesn't want me, I'll go. For sure!" Suarez told Helden Magazine.

One day is not necessarily in the summer.<laugh>

  14. Liverpool should see this as a warning light. Only way he will re-join Ajax is on a free or when he's older and therefore a lot cheaper. We should make sure we sell him on before it gets to that stage. Maybe next summer when he is 28?

    Next summer, for how much?
There's a lot of fanciful speculation on here about how much we could get for him, but let's just say it was £60-£70M. Surely if we kept him for 5 years he'd be worth more to the club in what he'd help us to achieve rather than a short-term cash in?

exactly, he will pay back any transfer fee we would get for him in hopefully keep getting us cl football over the years, and throw in maybe titles or cups, or more chance of achieving them any way, then what value do you put on that?

    #17
  18. Not that I disagree but what's to say we don't replace him with that £70m with two quality younger additions that are able to get us the same CL football each year?

My thought behind that comment was that Suarez himself has said he wants to join Real or Barca before his career is out.
