... Howard Webb, in his last league outing before jetting out to Brazil.

I know, it's nice to have a decent ref every now and then.

Even though he still makes mistakes.

He's a good ref but had some really off days this season. I reckon we would all struggle to select just 3 refs we were impressed by, and who we thought had been consistent this season.

It is indeed a struggle but my three would be no nonsense refs....Clattenburg, Webb, and Probert (thankfully we have him at Wembley) ....who are not swayed by the crowd and player protests and whose judgement is generally very good.

The ones who give me shivers are the likes of the awful Dean, Jones, and Mason who react to the home crowd and make nonsensical calls. I'm sure I could think of half a dozen more. Just my opinion.

Probert has improved since he sent off George Boatang for 'nothing' when he played for us against Blackburn away one miserable night in 2010. He's been one of the better ones this season; that said met him at La Manga on holiday 2012 and he came across as someone who thought he was on the Hollywood 'A' list. V underwhelming.

Howard "I never make a contentious call" Webb.

He's a **** house of a referee as he refs with his reputation paramount in his mind. He rarely gives anything remotely borderline as a result.

Happy with Webb...surely by now, we all know there's no such thing as a good ref ? Now i'm not a violent man, far from it, but i'd love to get in a cage fight with Phil Dowd....

I've hated Howard Webb since he sent off Alex Bruce after he was elbowed by Lee of Huddersfield. Still think he's better than Atkinson and Dean though. Dowd is one of the best IMHO.

What? Bruce was rightly sent off for his reaction, and Webb was looking the other way when Lee elbowed Bruce, which is why Lee was also subsequently banned.

Webb is good in a game like this, his main problem is that he's far too pally with the high profile England players, Rooney and Gerrard are practically an assistant referee.

Welcome to Not606 Woody <ok> Now then, when Dowd get's it wrong(which he's done every game iv'e seen), he get's way too emotionally involved when the crowd get on his back, and then the decisions are affected by that reaction.

But what really winds me up, is his want to actually laugh at players objections(yes i know players try it on),but he even has the arrogance to take a quick laughing glance at the infuriated supporters in the stands.

He's unprofessional,he's the definition of what is wrong with refereeing in this country. He's a ****.

I am Kempton Klutz, i hope we get along <ok>

All ref's make mistakes but he makes less than the others. I like the way he usually speaks to the players after the incident to tell them why he made the decision or to be careful.

I love Webb me. He seems to ignore many of the annoying unwritten rules that most refs use. For example when a defender is shepherding the ball out for a goal kick and there's a striker anywhere nearby he can always go down and get a free kick, regardless of the extent of any contact, but if Webbs reffing its different. He actually looks at things and makes a proper decision based on what he sees, rather than based on the usual convention.

I like Clattenburg too for a similar reason, but I appreciate he gets involved in some weird incidents now and then.
