Manager on building for the new season. Darrell Clarke will not be rushing the recruitment process at Bristol Rovers this summer. The manager has been unhappy with the balance of the squad, and wants to make sure he can put that right this summer. He said: âI wonât be rushing recruitment, I wonât be jumping in and signing players. Recruitment for me, hasnât been right, so I have to get it spot on. There are going to be a lot of players who want to play for Bristol Rovers, but that doesnât mean they are the right players. It is about doing the home work on players who want to come to this club. I have said all season that I think the squad is unbalanced, so now is my opportunity to try and put the balance right. We wonât be going for players who donât have the hunger, the desire and the ambition that matches the supporters, myself and the football club. I would rather have quality rather than quantity. You need to have a mixture and it is up to me to get the balance of the squad right, and make sure the squad has all the attributes in it to combat everything. There will be new faces, and I spoke to the players under contract yesterday. We have to get that united front back. Sometimes it takes a club to hit rock bottom before you start rebuilding.â Taken from OS.
Again he is saying the right things. However its disappointing that we wont get quick signings which i think a quick and very big signing is needed to show our intent to the league and the fans which may get more season ticket sales. Apparently he already gave his list of players he wants to Higgs. But that was a few weeks before we got relegated. So maybe some or all on that list are no longer an option so he needs to start from stratch??
They'll be different players from the League Two list. Probably cast offs from League One and League Two clubs...hopefully a few with a big point to prove...
Yeah I think we need a couple of descent just to make us a bit happier and keep us interested so lets start with Cureton and Steve Elliot
i would love elliott to come back. his pace is not their but he would do a great job at this level and he is dangerous too at set peices. would be a great captain and leader and wont take the crap from players missing training and being lazy. he would be good for players like lockyer someone as a role model. he would make a great player coach someone who clarke can trust. however apparently he is becoming part of the coaching set up at cheltenham!
Clark will probably need to move quickly to get one or two top notch signings and then build from there.
