Possibly because the Furphy or Holton Stand would not have had quite the same ring about it?

So, they rejected the idea of a tribute to Jamie Hand then...the Hand Stand has a certain ring about it..

True - but did they ever consider EJ? He did, after all, partially fund it.

I think that EJ refused to have it named after him when it was built, hence the Rous. He just has a suite in there named after him.

I'm dead pleased with the renaming.
But it renders a tune title of mine even more incomprehensible - I called it 'Top of the Rous'. Everybody in the band said "What??" Except the guitarist, who misread it as "Top of the Rons". And so it remained, even on the CD.

Is there one coming out next season then? Wonder if T.D. will be in the photo, that will tell a story in itself.

I was about 10 years old at the time, but didn't Paul Furlong fund that stand?

This is the one doing the rounds. But its suspiciously like the Wolves picture with some creative editing.

That was the Rookery which was built after Furlong was sold to Chelski.

Loved the comment by Diego Simeone about his Athletico Madrid players. This is what we want - not players with 'a sweet left foot', or 'an impressive turn of speed' but rather ones with big balls ! Maybe we could build this into the medical tests ?

The Rookery was indeed the Paul Furlong Benefit Stand, and the Vicarage Road Stand was the Wealdstone Memorial Stand, after Petchey milked the unfortunate Stones of an exorbitant rent when they shared the ground and built it with the proceeds......

A banner supplied by the 1881 group has gone up this afternoon in the new stand.

It says; "Here's to you, Pozzo family, Watford loves you more than you will know"

It is paraphrasing Simon and Garfunkel's Mrs. Robinson I believe. As the Pozzos will be at the game it is a good time to thank them for supplying a ring fenced stand. ;)

I think that was up at the last home game Frenchie. It was partially hidden behind the dugouts and various other bits of paraphernalia. So much so I could only make out the last bit. Thanks for clearing that up.

    "UseTheLeftWing visited on 26/04/2008

    Game watched: Watford 0-1 S****horpe

Championship game. Already relegated, but beat Play-Off bound Watford. Supporters coach was clapped out of Watford by home fans. Heroes."

Regardless of what happens on the pitch it's nice now and again to relaise that we're not actually such a bad bunch!
