“yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn” Yes Marko's comments are enough to send anyone asleep. Marko claimed that Sebastian Vettel's problems where due to a broken chassis. He then said that he didn't know if it was broke but if they gave Sebastian Vettel a new chassis then it might have a psychological effect on his performance. Red Bull have stated that the new chassis provided to Sebastian Vettel is NOT because the existing one is broken (something I could have told you anyway) but part of a standard replacement programme. The standard replacement programme is so well thought out and planned in advance that Red Bull can confirm that Daniel Ricciardo is due to get his new chassis erm, well eventually. But I do not go for that hype. If the story about the new chassis had any credibility then how come the F1 technical expert, Gary Anderson, has not discovered it and revealed it before now? Gary Anderson has a track record for his technical understanding of F1 In 1960 he invented hybrid technology via battery storage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torchy_the_Battery_Boy He gathered around him the best designers in F1 to produce the best car http://www.crazedfanboy.com/npcr11/images/terence/supercar.jpg NASA was so impressed by his technical expertise that they were inspired to design the Apollo programme based on his design of Fireball XL5.
But you can equally use that to point out that there are 2 drivers in a team and a lot of work on a car is done the season before success. There is an argument there that Buttons successful cars, the team had feedback from drivers who have a proven development background. 2009, Barrichello was there, 2011 they had Hamilton (who as proven with McLaren's comebacks with the dogs of cars, can clearly provide good feedback), 2004 kinda bucks that trend, a small argument that Villneueve the season before may have had input before he was canned, but no way Button didn't have the bigger impact, to say otherwise is harsh. I think Jenson is a fantastic driver, but there is certainly doubt in my mind that he's a good car developer given how off it he can be with tyres or balance. Of course the current issues aren't his fault entirely, but perhaps he just doesn't have the skill set required to be the one to turn it around again now McLaren are in a rut.
Marko really should butt out of the teams affairs and let their PR side decide what goes out in the public domain. Initially stating that they were building a new chassis to help Vettel if their was an issue with his current one, then making out that a new chassis is for psychological effect is likely to hurt Vettel more if he's still struggling to get to grips with the car in Spain IMO. I can't see how this public chatter will help. Horner should be the one to speak or not speak about what's going on in the team.
Be really interesting if somebody could tell us what kind of updates would be in boxes like that so you could see if they were focused more on the sidepods, the front, rear wings etc.
Using nothing but total assumption I'm going with 2 FWs and 2 RWs CIRCUIT DATA CIRCUIT DE CATALUNYA Length of lap: 4.655km Lap record 1:21.670 (Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari, 2008) Start line/finish line offset 0.126km Total number of race laps 66 Total race distance 307.104km Pitlane speed limits 80km/h in practice, qualifying and the race CIRCUIT NOTES ► The kerb on the approach to Turn One has been renewed and the verge behind it is now laid with asphalt. ► The kerbs on the exit of Turns Nine and 12 have been renewed and the artificial grass behind them extended. ► A 7m wide strip of gravel around the outside of Turn 11 has been replaced with asphalt. DRS ZONES ► Two DRS zones will be in use at the Circuit de Catalunya. The first has a detection point 86m before Turn Nine and an activation point 40m after. DRS detection point two is at the Safety Car line, with activation 157m after Turn 16. Wish they'd stop making the edge of circuits easy to drive on, it should be a challenge to stay on track, and then a punishment if you go off. Nothing wrong with a few metres of gravel or grass before you reach the asphalt run off zone.
Looking forward to Red Bull et al. catching Mercedes? Look away now: Mercedes developing for fun During an interview with Martin Brundle for SKY UK F1 ahead of the Bahrain GP, Bernie Ecclestone hinted that Mercedes had agreed with him to investigate developing some kind of exhaust configuration which would ‘improve’ the current sound of the engines. This week TJ13 revealed this week that this will take the form of a ‘megaphone’ solution, which is in effect a parallel exhaust which opens to ‘sing’ only toward the top end of the rev range in use. It is emerging from the paddock that we may see this exhaust during FP1 on Friday. There is a test following the GP in Barcelona, and it would seem to be more sensible for Mercedes to concentrate on their race set up in free practice, then test the mega super woofer sound system next week. Further, TJ13 has learned this morning that Mercedes have a significant aero package upgrade for this weekend, which should produce a performance improvement of 0.6s per lap for the W05. If true, beware the rest of the field, who will be trailing behind in effect behind a sound system on wheels that in theory is capable of trumpeting a triumphant “Das Deutschlandlied” in advance of the podium ceremony.
Judge is good with what he collects, but he takes it from other reports and make it out it's his own scoop. 0.6 came from Omnicorse http://www.omnicorse.it/magazine/37...mercedes-novita-che-valgono-fino-a-sei-decimi The guy is a copy, edit and past kind of blogger. As the places like AmuS, Omnicorse, SportBild etc don't publish it in English he uses an auto translator and then fills in the gaps with his own words to make out he "heard it" from some insider in Mercedes for example. He isn't wrong that he "learned this morning" though, has been on Omnicorse for almost 4 hours now...
If the can eek out another .6s on top of the 1s a lap on most cars during the race (when not trying) and 2s when pushing, if the others don't make a step forwards in performance, the two Mercs, if they remain reliable, could lap the entire field.. Joy

0.6 is at about 2012 levels when they were still getting used to the coanda exhausts, the rest should make a much bigger jump of about a second at least.
Tobias Grüner F1 ‏@tgruener 36m #F1 Sebastian Vettel confirms his new chassis is in fact an old chassis used during testing already. Heard its chassis number RB10-01.

So Silver, let me get this straight..they are trying to make us believe that Red Bull will produce the same chassis as the one Ricciardo is using right now..same specs and everything... They wouldn't try to build a better chassis that will give the cars a higher performance gain right? So what they are trying to make us believe is that they are not looking for any performance gain in building a new chassis ...no improvement at all? Hmmmmmm. Come on, they don't honestly think we will believe that do they? Any team that builds a new chassis will be aiming for a big step forward...Red Bull guys need to sit down Nd decide which story they want to put out because they are contradicting themselves with every sentence. Get the story straight red bull.
