I'd think about Medal as well. He's the captain of one of the best international sides in the world at the moment, and seems to be largely ignored. I can't believe he wouldn't be useful, or that he would cost much. I like Caulker for being outstanding in the air, because the more good targets Eriksen has, the better. Last I saw him, he wasn't a particularly good defender otherwise, though.

Medel has some sort of release clause, according to various gossip sites. Good player, but probably one that we don't need right now.

Yeah I certainly wasn't bowled over by Caulker first time around. Having said that CB is one of those positions where youngsters get found out a bit and need that experience (except in freakish cases like Ledley). Kaboul springs to mind but the trouble is that, as was the case with Kaboul when he was only 21 or whatever, they still attract bigger fees as youngsters. Cos you pay for "promise" despite them not being all that great for the first few years.

we replaced one dick of a manager for another ...
we lost 3 times to the goons without scoring,
3 times to fat sam scoring just once,
made ****s of ourselves v city (twice), Liverpool (twice), and chelsea ...
broke our club transfer record on 3 different occassions on
1) a player likely to leave
2) a player who can't score and
3) on a player that can't be found

apart from that it's all great

We need three things: the right manager, with the players he wants, and patience. Rodgers and Liverpool hardly looked very impressive last year, but look what a little continuity can do.

I'm skeptical we'll get the right manager, and would be shocked if he gets the players he wants. Both those things look as sure as the sun coming up tomorrow compared to us and the club demonstrating a little patience.

Sick of finishing only fourth and having a manager who occasionally said dumb things to the media it was decided that we had every right and likelihood to move "up to the next level" so that manager was sacked and all the best players were sold so that "a new project" could begin. Many very capable players were also sold for replacements that, even at first glance, did not look like an improvement.

The new manager was much more young, good-looking and had a fancy foreign name. The majority of the new players had never played in the EPL before so according to most fans and pundits they were probably "world class".

And mid-season, during a time when our most expensive striker ever couldn't hit a barn door and none of the other players were chipping in with goals regularly either, we sold Jermain Defoe.

I have literally no idea what went wrong. It just seems like such an excellent plan.

I've changed my mind. Everything will go fantastically well. Our luck has to change at some point. Why not now?

TBH being in touching distance of fourth for most of the season whilst playing dire all year bar about 2/3 games (that many?!) and having about 3 players who have been anything like above average I think we have actually, bizarrely, been quite lucky. In another year we could have been bottom half of the table.

RCL and Lenny - I think you both need to stop beating around the bush, and say what u really think! <laugh>
In all seriousness though, it's just hard to believe we are where we are. What a mess. Another "rebuild" and "transition" season coming up.

In other news, Van Gaal has said he wants to become the united manager too, according to the bbc.

Sherwood's decision to consistently omit Sandro seems to have him considering his future:

“He (Tim Sherwood) will leave at the end of the season. Then, new coach, new everything.”
Sandro adds: “I do not know anything yet, but I’m happy to have my name talked about with a club the size of Sao Paulo. Anyway, it would be very difficult to leave on loan from here.”
He continues: “If I was to leave, it would have to be permanently and it is not close. Other teams have come, however, with little money. President (Daniel Levy) negotiates every transfer, this was the case for [Gareth] Bale had the case, it is not easy.”

Cheers, Tim. <ok>
Any return to Brazil seems incredibly unlikely, though.

If these are legit quotes I wanna kick Tim in the face...

Multiple times.

Usually we struggle to keep hold of our best players, putting up a decent fight in the end to usually get good fees. This time it seems we're trying to force them out now! ****ing joke.

Any link to these quotes?

If true, then the sooner 5 pm Sunday comes around the better.

It's from ESPN Brazil and a couple of sites have translated (or autotranslated) the quotes.

He may well have had ok results in charge but with the way the players are looking/sounding Tim's time in charge could go down as one of the most damaging reigns.

Like I said with AVB, with the squad we have, managers should be getting good win ratios. Yes they've underperformed but these players are of a much higher calibre than many of their opposition and should be winning a good number of games.

There does seem as though there's an air of uncertainty with players, their body language stinks of people royally pissed off and I do now believe Tim is largely to blame for that.

One more game guys, lets try and stay sane.
