As deliriously happy as I am that we are safe, I'm gonna say something that may get people's backs up. Where have these recent performances been all season? If we had played like this all year god only knows where we would be. It's disappointing that we can do it now and thank god we did but man, if only they could have done it from the start.
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts wouldn't it be a merry Christmas. I think that's how it goes. No point looking backwards mate, just appreciate the here and now. And the possibility of the future.
Sorry if I'm negative, it's just frustrating that we can play this well at the end of the season. I'm dreaming about how good the season could have been, lol. It's gonna be interesting to see who's here next season. In looking forward to Gus having a pre-season to get them all ready.
At the moment I understand your frustration, mainly how we didn't,t turn up for some games,, supposed player power etc etc, it,s now down to Ellis and Gus to sort out who goes, stays and players we sign, what do we do Sunday when there,s nothing but pride on it and maybe some playing for their lives? Would have loved Jozy to have knocked 1 in as he,s a trier but he,s never going to make it
No point looking into it - you could pay psychologists a few million quid to look into it and they still wouldn't get an answer. The one thing (I think) that made the difference was the draw at city - it seemed to shift the mentality of every player and fan. We deserved to win at the best club in the league and were disappointed with a point in the end. Then we followed that up with a fantastic performance away to Chelsea - had we played at home in either of those games against anyone I don;t think we'd have got anything. But the fans gained momentum from those two as did the players. Had we won the league cup I reckon we'd be close to top half - that is how big the loss hit the side IMO
I'm actually quite happy that the performances didnt come until later. I am sick of new managers coming in, getting good results in the fist 15 games getting us exited about a bright future, then get gradually worse results until we survive by the skin of our teeth then have to get rid of them 10 games into the new season. Poyet's honeymoon period was over ages ago and I am still confident he is the manager to take to us forward. How many of us would have said the same about MON, PDC etc after 30 games in charge? Slow steady improvement over flash in the pan for me everytime.
Doing a sunderland.. GUS Poyet feels that the “Sunderland Miracle”, the “Great Escape” – call it what you will – is going to be the benchmark by which the most desperate of future relegation dogfights are measured. The Black Cats’ 2-0 victory over West Brom last night confirmed a flight from the jaws of relegation which was every bit as remarkable as it was unlikely. “It will be talked about for years to come,” said Poyet as he acknowledged that fact. “It will be famous. “In future years, people will say of struggling teams that if you are seven points behind with six games to go, that it is not over, that it can be done: ‘look at Sunderland’, they will say.” “I don’t know if something like this will ever happen again, but I believe in miracles now.” http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport/sunderland-afc/sunderland-boss-we-ll-be-famous-1-6603726
