Greetings my fellow whack ass mo' foo's.

I have seen a few posts on here about how it is all well and good playing attacking, exciting football, but it means f**k all unless you win trophies, ergo, it is better to be dull and win things than be flamboyant and end a season without silverware.

I think this is arse gravy of the very highest order. I have watched us win silverware by parking busses, back passing and grinding out trophy wins. Now, the elation of winning a trophy is the same no matter how you play. What differs is how you go on up to that point.

Some of you on here are young, so I will use 2001 as an example. We won 3 cups that season, and it was nice. Whilst the final of the UEFA cup was high scoring, the 3 rounds before were tense, we parked the bus vs Barca, Porto and Roma. It was not good to watch, i paid my money to stand there, sing my heart out, but not get very excited, many games were watched through fingers thinking we would f**k up and lose 1-0. Inept like that a lot that year.

Years earlier, under Roy Evans, we had a frustrating team that were capable of getting 4 past a very Good Newcastle side, but losing 3-0 to West Ham the week after. The games were great to watch, we had some great attacking talent, but had John Scales, Rob Jones, Phil Babb and Calamity James at the back. We won trophies every now and then, got to finals, it was a stash comedown from our 80s peak, but on the day there was a sense we could beat anyone.

I feel like that again now. I don't expect us to fill our trophy cabinet again any time soon, but I'm excited to watch us again. Any team at the moment would be nervous about coming to Anfield. You pay your money to see a game, and we f**king well give you one to watch.

If I were to be watching us defend all the time and play antifootball, I would be bored, cold and slightly disappointed, until the moment of elation if the style were to win us something.

Now, ideally we would play like this and win trophies, and we might. I'm not, however, going to wish We had done things differently this year. All said and done, I've loved this season, even in dropping 6 points to Chelsea, we put a good account in for ourselves, esp at The Bridge.

On our day, we can beat anyone, I hope we keep at it, the defence will get better and the trophies might come, at least we can have a riot watching the side if they don't.

There's so much negativity (not saying you) from people around Liverpool because it looks like we might well (still a chance though) end up second. Second. We were expected by most to finish 7th or 6th. It's only Rodgers' second season! He took control of a team who couldn't score in a brothel and who's defense was dodgy. He's solved one half of that, and done so in spectacular fashion without needing a billionaire's backing. I'm sure he'll look at the defense this time around whilst adding some depth to the squad.

Disappointing to have come so close and been pipped at the post, but Rodgers is young, naive and learning still, our squad really looked on their last legs towards the final few games and for many of our players, it was their first time being in a title run in.

I see nothing but hope for the future and I'm made up that we're sticking to our guns with attacking flair and exciting football. Alot of our shipped goals were through individual error/mistakes and set pieces rather than some horrendously exposed tactic. Improved personnel and a focused pre-season will help.

Yup, whilst it is heart breaking to lose out in the last 3 games, we had an immense run to get us to a position where it was ours to lose, and I have loved watching it.

The Palace result didn't matter at least.

We got to where we are playing that attacking football, we don't have a squad that can play attrition football.

What we need is better defending or better defenders. I think Rodgers has got a really good balance between attack and defend.

if there is one result that cost us this season that maybe should not have it was Southampton at home, followed by Villa at home too. We were extremely poor in those games when we should be really taking the points given how we played at home this season. 5 dropped points 1 dropped league title<laugh>

You only win a trophy maximum four days a year. Its more important to enjoy the rest of the year. Achieving your goals is not the fun bit in life. The fun bit is the journey.

Live and Learn on all levels and we will be better placed next year.

Think next year we should just win our first 30 games so we dont have to worry about these end of season jitters

Agree with the all the posts so far (especially about Evans' team) but I do think we need a centre-back and a dm. And probably a rb too.

  9. Number one priority is winning trophies. Second is style. However, if we had to play like Chelsea to get a trophy (which hasn't worked for them) I'd rather not win anything (****ing hell, that sounds like a Arsenal fan <yikes>). We don't have to go all out attack like we have this season and I'd have happily seen us be more defensive against Chelsea and Palace too but boy has it been fun this season.

Disappointed with second with teams currently third, fifth and seventh attempting to laugh at us despite still having a chance (albeit, a small chance) of winning the title going into the last game of the season? Yep, I'd have snatched your hand off at the start of the season!!!!!

I honestly don't feel that way (although you do appear to contradict yourself in the next sentence). I'd always support my team no matter what, but if they played dull, boring stuff all the time I'd get nowhere near the same pleasure from it.

I think it's good that this season 4 of the top 5 all attempt to play good football. The one rotten egg is in there through being so efficient, but the fact that the (probable) top 2 will be the two most entertaining and attacking teams in the league shows that you don't have to sacrifice flair to win trophies.

I don't think that is the choice. I think it's more - "it is all well and good playing attacking, exciting football, but it means f**k all unless you also focus on a tight defence"

Why is it a choice between fluid, attractive, attacking football OR trophies? I've never understood that tbh. Why can't it be both. That should be the aim of every club. And if you don't win trophies it isn't because of your attacking, exciting football, it's because there's a flaw somewhere else. Why the hell would you want to change the one good thing that is working?! You fix what's not.

Bull****. I prefer winning trophies. Football is called the beautiful game because one thing is sure: If you win a trophy, it is guaranteed that you'd had to dish out pretty stuff as well as stern stuff.

Chelsea couldn't win anything this year because they couldn't dish out the sufficient dose of pretty stuff that the beautiful game requires. Liverpool couldn't win this year because they were short on the stern stuff requisite.

  14. I understand the contradiction bit but I genuinely meant both parts of what I said. Winning IS the main priority but there is a limit to the approach IMO too.

I enjoyed winning trophies under Houllier but I hated the football we played, it was boring as hell (unless you enjoy chewing your hands off!). Alternatively, I loved watching us under Evans but had a constant desire for trophies.

  15. You guys did it a few years ago when you had Rooney, Tevez and C.Ronaldo up front; great football to watch (apart from you bloody winning <grr>) and you won league titles plus a CL. Unless a minor miracle happens for Chelsea to win the league, an attacking side will win it this year too.

Each to their own, but I'd rather be excited and entertained and win nothing, than be bored ****less and win nothing.

You two, saint & G, didn't get it. I cannot want us to play like Chelsea, because they cannot win anything if they continue to play that negative.

It wasn't aimed at you. Just to the cuckoo ones that believe trophies can be won without a defence.
