Bergkamp + Spurs + Europa away = comedy gold.
Is he already en route to the first away leg next season ??

Well if he ends up at the Lane I am guessing Hoddle will be on the invite list alot

A young Dennis Bergkamp was a fan of Glenn Hoddle though and he was famously quoted as saying, “Maybe I was….maybe I am a little different from other players. They will tell you that Pele, Maradona, Cruyff are their idols and I will say Glenn Hoddle.”

  4. I didn't know about Den's love of Hoddle, but, you know? I kinda can see why he, like me, sees Glenn as a god. It explains why young Den was such a big Spurs fan. Coming to us will be a dream move for him.

Hoddle and Cruyff. My two gods...... So a Dutch guy tutored by Cruyff who thought Hoddle was great sounds like a pretty good start to me. So we would have an ex Arsenal player who supported Spurs as a kid 'replacing' an ex Spurs player who supported Arsenal. Lovely irony there

  6. Yes. I'm sure it won't be lost on Den. I hear he's quite an intelligent chap, so well suited to our set-up.

HIAG my money's on Pochettino coming to the Lane. Reasons are obvious:

    1) Cheap - buying out a Saints managerial contract won't break the bank. One year left on his current deal. Levy loves a bargain!
    2) Young - easily influenced to work under the current DOF system. Experienced; more commanding managers will tell Levy to take a hike which he won't like at all.
    3) Prospect - Levy has never gone for a manger with accolades - he prefers a protegé for some unknown reason (see point 2). No doubt money motivated i.e cheap
    4) Sackable - his contract won't be in the tens of millions so failure can be laid firmly on him if he doesn't deliver top four in his first season, thus not costing the club too much in compensation and Levy moves onto his next victim
    5) Style - coaches an attractive, passing style that will go down very well at the Lane, thus Levy will take all the credit for his genius in finding this untapped talent that no one else had noticed before him. All hail King Levy!
    6) Gamble - has a decent record enough to appease the Spurs faithful in the short term with the possible chance he might, just might be the right choice to bring some success but again, see point 4 above if he doesn't
    7) World Cup - I can't see Levy wanting to wait until after the World Cup to find Sherwood's replacement. Levy'll do his managerial business fast unlike his transfer dealings. He'll want to know who stays, who goes and who needs buying and fast so that he can start his drawn out transfer negotiations until the last minute to scrimp and squabble over 50p - only to miss out on Poch's targets and get some dross last minute instead.

So for me, we're getting Pochettino; especially since he's not really committing his future to Southampton in the immediate future which suggests he has options on the table this summer.

  8. You're probably right, mate, although I do hope you're not. A part of me is hoping that Levy has finally learned his lesson, that the manager is the most important position in the club, and that he shouldn't be looking to skimp on the appointment. However, the best part of me believes that Levy is simply too stupid to understand the point. The man is a genius when it comes to saving money, but that seems to be where his genius ends.

So, until Levy names his bargain-basement manager, I'll continue to dream that we're getting De Boer and Den.

Continue to dream chap, we are all the same when it comes to the manager we so desperately crave but if Levy hasn't learned from glaringly obvious mistakes like hiring Santini, sacking Jol, hiring Ramos, sacking Redknapp, hiring AVB and his brilliance in unearthing the tactically enept, tactless Sherwood, then he clearly is an imperious dunce!

Oh yeah, we have our own for sure. If Abramovich is a Rottweiler, Levy is a Chihuahua. Same species, different breed!
