I've been looking at this site for the past 9 months but not contributed because either my thoughts had been echoed by others or there were disagreements on the way forward mainly about the Manager (of which I was unsure at various times of the seaon which side of the fence I should be sat on).

However, with our relegation pending ( though hopefully not - I like many others have now started talking in a Brummie accent with a Welsh llit) I'm going to put my thoughts out there about next season.

We have to be realistic and the vultures circle every year around the premier league clubs, Snodgrass, Olssen, Ruddy will go because they deserve better football than championship level.

Redmond will be better than championship but he's a bench warmer at a decent premiership club at the moment so we may hold on to him.

Fer, Bassong and RVW (ignoring ability) have shown the wrong attitude on more than enough occasions. Plus get rid of all loanees.

If, if we could keep the rest, add a few scrappers and get the right man in charge (again I'm not entering that debate), then we may not be out of the Premier league too long.

Finally, I will add that I believe that McNally made a mistake by leaving the decision late (whether it be the right or wrong one) but he has been fantastic and should not be judged or leave on that decison alone IMHO.

I know I'm not covering any new ground, so please excuse that but it's a forum and this is my opinion.

    Cheers

A warm welcome Notts but a fair bit of 'fence sitting' in your first post mate ;)

Just ignore the Binners that show up on here.

Some of them seriously have no lives whatsoever and they know who they are.

    It's a fair comment.

Ok - I wanted the Manager out pre January but once we got past that I thought it was pointless getting rid. I also don't want to go back over this it as it has been done to death. As for a new manger, we have played well (Man U aside) under the new fellow, if we can't attract a real motivator give him a go. Nothing new here but realistic ideal choice for me is Malky - whether he's a man for the prem is a different story but he did a good job with Cardiff in the championship.

There you go I'm off the fence and boy do I feel better for it....

    Welcome aboard that man.

I once saw Travis play in Sherwood Pines several years ago.

    It absolutely tipped it down.

Why does it always rain on me was never a more appropriate song.

I would be very much against Malky if we were to somehow stay up but if we go down we need someone who knows how to get out of the Championship. I love the second tier but I cannot face another six or seven years of struggle down there.

Welcome Notts, nice to boost the East Midlands representation on here. At the end of the day fence-sitting (or taking the middle ground) is rarely too far from the correct position. We will never know what impact an earlier managerial change would have had but I am unconvinced that Malky is the answer for us. the more the debate goes on the more I am swaying to Lennon as being the right man, even though I don't really like him personally.

I still think the board will give Adams the first 8-10 games, but I'm thinking Sherwood might not be a bad shout, Hmm <confused>

Absolutely no interest at all in Sherwood, he would be a terrible appointment in my opinion.

I am too leaning towards Lennon being my first choice, however as Rob says he might have set his sights on the Premiership and might wait for an offer from elsewhere.

    Personally I like Sherwood.

His honesty when asked in an interview if a certain
player was injured,to answer "no he isn't injured he just
ain't good enough to play for me" was brilliant.

    Calls a spade a spade.

Also got the best out of players who had been
    warming the bench under RVB

Better bet than Malky,Adams,Lennon (who will not come to a Championship) etc etc

Definitely a big 'No' to Sherwood - guy's a ticking bomb. Wouldn't want him representing my club, honest or not.

Sounds like the kind of thing Di Canio used to come out with. I personally think he's bit of a loose cannon, an accident waiting to happen who has been found out at Spurs once the going started getting a bit tough.

I'm not bothered at all about what the manager says to the media, whether he calls a spade a spade when a microphone is shoved under his nose or anything like that - in fact I'd much prefer it if he didn't and kept the media stuff diplomatic rather than airing dirty washing in public. Unlike some people, it didn't bother me in the slightest whatever Hootun said about the opposition in interviews, for me it's irrelevant.

    Much prefer tight-lipped to those
    Who open their mouths readily,
Only to wish they´d kept them shut
    When media take them literally.

And as above, no to Sherwood thanks

All this about Managers not speaking their mind is baffling me.

Clough,Wenger,Mourinho and Fergy all told it as it is.

Not much success from those 4 though,so plough
on with a "fence sitting yes man"<doh>

    welcome notts <ok>

i have to say, i'd rather have no manager than take a punt on that idiot sherwood. as said above, he's a ticking time bomb. he has absolutely no managerial ability from what i can tell. spurs appear to be in total chaos behind the scenes. i'd rather neil adams than him and i don't think he should be anywhere near the position either.

we need somebody with a proven track record. i don't like the guy but of the realistic candidates neil lennon is probably the strongest and most appropriate candidate (and even he is possibly a little unrealistic if we go down). i think he'd give us the necessary kick up the 'arris. if not, mackay is the sensible choice - people will say he is defensive or shares the same characteristics as hughton and they'd be right to a degree. but that only matters if we are in the premier league - then we need something different. but in the championship malky is proven and his teams always scored plenty of goals at that level. he's not the best manager in the world but we aren't going to get a top manager. we need the best man for our circumstances. the important thing is to get out of the division and next season will present our best shot, otherwise we could end up down there for years.

if we are serious about regaining our place at the top table then we will appoint either malky mackay or neil lennon. if we aren't serious it will be adams or sherwood.

The big difference with those examples you've given is that they earned the right to behave the way the do/did by being so successful in their careers, and for earning respect in the game as proven winners, something Sherwood is a million miles away from having just won a few games as Spurs manager.

Why the hell would Lennon give up managing a team in the Champions League for a struggling team in the Championship! God, you boys take delusional to a whole new level! <laugh>

What is the obsession with the Champions League, and while we are here, what proof is there that ALL players and ALL managers only want to be part of it?
Why did Robert Fleck leave Rangers to play for Norwich?
Why did Gary Hooper leave Celtic to play for Norwich

Obviously not to keep playing in the CL or regular top level European competition

Perhaps Neil Lennon is tired of getting knocked out in the league stages, perhaps it's really feckin up his head, and needs to get away. Of course I have no proof of that either, so would not write off the possibility of it happening.
