Thought Shelvey was older than 22, he looks older to me.

Might just be the bald head.

Shelvey looks like he permanently wears a bank robbers stocking.

For me Shelvey is a decent player. He gets goals, puts his foot in and above all is a player that always gives 100%. He's no Cabaye, but we can't afford a Cabaye. We got lucky in that he had a clause for a fraction of his true value, the club acted on that quickly and did well to sign him up before any of the big European clubs knew of his clause.

At the end of the day Shelvey is different to Anita & Tiote, he can take a set piece and would generally compliment our other CM's so I'm not sure why people are objecting to us trying to sign him. It's the same for Colback, a good squad player, a local lad and another player that always gives 100%. He can play either of the roles that Tiote & Anita play which is only a good thing as competition generally makes everyone up their game.

I like Townsend too, he's a little bit greedy at times but he's very quick and can play on either flank. Levy is renowned for driving just as hard a bargain as Ashley though (he got Stoke to pay 11m for a 30 year old Peter Crouch) so I imagine he'd want something like 10m-12m for Townsebd which might count us out.

At the end of the day if our midfield options were Tiote, Anita, Colback, Sissoko, Townsend, Gouffran & a fit Ben Arfa I don't think we could have any complaints. We'd have a good variation of graft, physique, skill and athleticism. Could maybe add another central play maker in the ilk of Grenier, De Jone & Cabella (haven't seen much of any of them but we've been linked with all three) and we'd have pretty much 8 players competing for 4/5 spots depending on formation. All of whom are on a similar level.

I'm not saying the above is going to happen, but if did then we go from having Gosling & Sammy as back up to having Gouffran, Colback, Anita etc on our bench so I don't see how it can be a bad thing.

Aside from his greed, Townsend's injury record this season concerns me.

Townsend? Atleast Jonjo Shelvey has played more than 5 games a bloody season. Townsend is going to be a flop.

I think there are much worse players than Shelvey to be linked with. Frazier Campbell or a renewed contract for Shola leave me feeling very, very cold.

Not sure how we can be linked with all these players, mind. Does this mean Pardew is staying?! Fck a dck, that'll kill me.

This is on the money for me. We need to be realistic. We need players who will give 100% and have a little bit of quality about them. The three mentioned in the post are all good young players that would give 100%.

I'd sooner pass on one of Townsend or Ince and get a proper left back in.
That would just leave a decent striker though I can't help thinking Cisse can still turn it round, he can't score without any service around him

Townsend could do well for you lot, I always thought you looked good with that Routledge in your side, particularly in the Championship. Townsend is a definite upgrade from Routledge and also knows how to track back as well. Not sure if Pardew would get the best out of him or if he'd not have better options than you lot though. He'll end up at QPR if they get promoted no doubt, Harry loves him.

Style of play, matey. He is a converter of crosses - look at his goals, even the wonderstrikes, from his start to life at NUFC and they are all crosses. Contrast that to Pardew's new "stop the opposition and try and counter" style, and you can see why he doesn't get many chances.

Remy only scores because he's happy to drop and receive the ball on the counter. He can then go at the opposition with skill/guile, which is utterly different to Cisse's style. This is why Pardew's so hopeless - his "tactic" isn't really a tactic at all. His primary concern is nullify the opposition. If we do that, and have genius on the field (Remy, Cabaye and to a much lesser extent Ben Arfa), then we can score the odd goal.

I'd love to sit down with Pardew and understand why his definition of having his team on the "front foot" seems to differ from the rest of the world.

Pardew is also quoted as saying that We will TRY to improve the squad in the summer not will improve. I guess he is covering his back when all the bids start to go wrong for us. ``We tried but couldn`t quite get it over the line ``

Look it doesn't matter what **** we sign in the summer - we will still have a **** manager who will fail to get the best out of them.

Shelvey: Bald Nazi stormtrooper who Swansea won't sell, at least not for an extortionate price.

Ince: Done abit for Blackpool, hardly played for Palace.

Townsend: Injury prone and will not come here anyway.

Caulker: Don't get the hype, got run ragged at Sunderland and Shola was all over him. When you make Shola look half decent you have problems.

Zaha: f**k that. Unless he bangs Pardew's daughter - then again Pardew would probably high five him and ask what it was like the sick deviant (assuming his daughter is of legal age - if not ignore that remark).

I'd take Townsend but I wonder if Pardew could bring him on. Shelvey would also be good, seen that top four clubs looking at Caulker

To be fair to him, what else can he say ?

He has no control of who we make offers for nor for how much. If he said "we will do {anything}" he would be guessing at best or lying at worst.

The same would hold true for any other manager who works for Ashley. Slate him for his faults by all means but don't slate him for the current NUFC manager job description (unless you are of the view that no one should take on that job description, and accordingly that we should not have a manager at all)

I'd take Townsend, Colback, and Shelvey too. I think you're all forgetting beggars can't be choosers. I'd take shelvey in a heartbeat. 6 goals and 6 assists this season. All of them have lots of room to grow. My biggest concern is can we get them? Colback maybe. Even if we did we see that Pards isn't the best at developing players.

Our players got complacent in my eyes. Once we sold cabaye they saw their position was stable and they weren't gonna get dropped. We need competition for these guys. That way they can be dropped if they slack off.
