I was born too late for Rodney or any of the other's mentioned before '75. So it's Stan Bowles for me. I've never ever pretended to be anyone one else in the school playground since. There have been many other favourites, But you never forget your first. Probably the best football formation ever! All of the right players in there correct positions, whether you're going forwards or backwards or anywhere in-between.
Stan was the best I've seen but the OP asked for our favourite. I don't really want to seperate six of mine but at a push Gary Waddock probably just receives my vote. The other candidates being Mick Leach, Frank Clarke, Glen Roeder, Paul Furlong & Ale Faurlin.
Igor, That is one hell of a list and a great wander down memory lane. I admit that I was very impressed by the young Paul Goddard and very saddened when we sold him to West Ham. He would feature in my top 20.
Sorry for the cop out on this - but all of the 75-76 team as they gave their all and sweated blood for the cause and came so close to the main prize.......... But Stan Bowles did have a habit of making the game look so bloody easy !!!!!!!!!
In that '75 team Francis and Bowles took all the plaudits but Don Givens was superb, I don't know how many goals he scored that season but it must have been quite a few Just looked it up, he was top scorer with 13
Yep, he scored 26 in our first year back up 73/74. I remember Don getting quite a lot of stick from the crowd on occasion, unlike Stan who was exempt from criticism.
Now who should I vote for.....? He's the man who got me hooked on QPR in the first place. I still get shivers down my spine when I recall the cries of Rod-nee echoing around Loftus Road. And, then, there's that rather special goal at Wembley. Not the best, maybe, but he was truly special. From a more recent vintage: Lee Cook and Paul Furlong.
Fav player has to be Brett Angel - I always went home laughing and thinking if he can make it, so can I ........and my nan for that matter
I've got a pair of QPR shorts somewhere signed by Gary Waddock, my uncle knew him somehow. My favourite was the mountain that was Bob Hazel no nonsense! Although I modelled myself on Roeder! Every bodies shuffling !
Growing up as a Junior R in the 90s it can only be Sir Les. I'll never forget sitting in the Loft and watching Les turn Paul Ince on a sixpence and smash that goal into the top corner against Man Utd. Plenty of players to enjoy from that team David Bardsley, Clive Wilson and Andy Impy...Impy gave his all in that team, and I think he won player of the season a couple of times!
I have already voted for Big Mac and I won't change my mind, but I have to give a big shout to the following in no particular order: Gary Bannister (he had one leg shorter than the other you know), Sir Les, Johnny Byrne, Leroy Rosenior. Stan, Rodney, Ian Gillard, Dave Clements, El Tel, Gerry, Trevor Sinclair, Rufus Brevett, Gary Waddock, Terry Fenwick, Wayne Fereday (faster than Alan Wells).
Stan was my favourite by miles but loved all of the mid 70s team. Love him or hate him Trevor Francis was brilliant for a year or two and Ive still got the video of his very own collection of goal of the season circa 1989 He seems to have been forgotten in this thread?!!!
I'll never forgive Francis T for scoring the goal of the season - against us for Birmingham City in 1976. I went to that game, and St Andrews then, and Birmingham as a whole, was even more godforsaken then than it is now. A thoroughly miserable day out. Not sure if Tony Ingham's appearances have been matched? Played with a wired up jaw for Alec Stock's team. Flying winger John McClelland was my boyhood hero. He played on "the other wing" to Mark Lazarus. With Brian Bedford and Bernie Evans in the middle those were the players that sold me QPR.
