Backing low numbers in sprints at Chester is almost a license to print money but a couple of factors have to be taken into account. A horse drawn low has to handle the track and more importantly has to be able to race up with the pace. If it cant go the early pace then the draw is a hindrance rather than the massive positive that it should be. CHEERIO SWEETIE 11/4 Chester 1.45 is an ideal Chester type and can make very good use of the plum draw. She ran into the very useful Makhmul last time and was definitely second best but that rival will surely struggle to give her an extra nine pounds tomorrow especially from an outside draw. The conditions of this race suit her down to the ground and she looks a gift to kick the meeting off with. Managed to get 3's on Betfair and delighted with that as I reckon she will start at around 7/4. I like BROCKWELL for the Chester Cup but not confidently enough to shout it on here. Pricewise is going to tip him so get on early if you like him. My other real fancy tomorrow is for SEAS OF GREEN 8.30 Worcester 16-1 who has been a bit of a weak finisher in her races so far but a drop back in trip will suit this one down to the ground. She doesn't need to really improve much to take a hand and at attractive odds think she is a smart each way punt!
2 picks from my local track- 14.35 Brighton- Cardinal- 5/1 Started off last year in good style with a win in early 2013 but has been disappointing since but seems to have a liking for this track which is an all important factor, kind of like Epsom horses either get the course or not! Is running 2lbs lower than his win in January last year and will be hard to beat at this course! 15.35 Brighton- Layline- 10/1 e/w The Henderson horse ridden by Fallon will sure be popular, but am willing to take a small chance on Miss Kelleways runner, as the favourite looks to be thrown in a little bit at the deep end. Layline has been ticking over by running on the AW and has been putting in some decent runs. He is running off a 7lb lower mark than his last win on the polytrack back in November and has shot up in the weights. But is now back to a very winnable mark, especially with a decent claimer on his back, claiming 5lbs on his more preffered surface, he looks a too big of a price to ignore. Also for those interested, Hughes has seemed to have deserted the Hannon runner in the 16.10 and chosen the Baker runner- Aqua Ardens
Had a free bet so put it on Mawaqeet - 14/1 e/w in the Chester Cup, put in some decent efforts in some big handicaps for SMS and now with McCain who loves to send out horses for a big run in the race with the likes of Overturn, Il De Re. He looks to have been bought with this race in mind and is a nice e/w price
Quite fancy Trinityelitedotcom 7/2 in the sprint at 4.25. Drawn in 6 will hopefully not inconvene too much as he usually breaks well and gets up with the speed, preferably he will get the lead and I think if he does he will be hard to peg back.
Chester 2.15 Psychometry 15/2 The race of the day I think, Terrific is obviously well bred and the stable has a good record here but she looks a bit slow and its unlikely we will see the best of her in this, has to be opposed at 2/1. Bright Approach was impressive on debut and the form has worked out very well, she could be the class horse in the race but she has her work cut out from stall 9 on a track that might not be ideal for her, Gosdens were winning every race looking like class horses at the time and a lot of them have not backed it up, she has a good chance but 9/4 looks short enough considering. Brown Diamond is a really nice filly who has caught the eye in a couple of above average maidens, whether she wants this far im not sure, shes by Fastnet Rock who can produce middle distance types, out of a Darshaan mare so its certainly possible she could stay, sounds like they will ride her quiet and this has the potential to get tactical which could go against her if they ride to get the trip from the inside. Lady Tyne hacked up in the mud last season, the form looks pretty good on paper but it might have been a result of her handling the conditions much better than her rivals and while she could be anything, id want to see her prove it on decent ground. Secret Persuit won as she liked over a mile last time, shes bred to be a miler pretty much and I have serious doubts about the trip for her. Groovejet is a likeable filly, she lacks the potential of some of these but shes no mug and she looks the possible pace in the race, she porbably shouldnt be 33/1 but she probably wont be good enough even if getting the run of things. Full Moon Fever looks to have plenty on here, was given a good ride to win at Wolves in what was probably an above average maiden for the track but Turner got caught sleeping on the 2nd who was giving her 5 pounds, hard to make a case for her getting involved in this. Anipa is very interesting here I think, Sea The Stars filly who is a half sister to Flower Bowl winner Ave, she was well positioned in a slowly run race at Windsor last time but she won it well and could be improving. She may lack the class of some but she is tough, if they go a crawl she could get the run of the race and were she to steal a couple of lengths she will take a bit of catching, saver at 25/1. And last but hopefully not least, Psychometry, Niarchos won this a few years ago with the Oaks winner Light Shift and while its unlikely this filly will follow, she is a nice prospect and this has been the plan for some time. She was an unlucky loser at Ascot first time out but showed her quality in the race and went on to win her maiden third up at Kempton, travelling strongly and showing a good turn of foot. The trip should be fine and Moore should be able to slot in nicely behind Groovejet and Anipa in maybe 3rd or 4th, and if all goes to plan, press the button off a smooth trip and run away with it.
hi lads , you seem to be doing great recently--especially uncle and stick--bostonbob too, many others i'm sure have chipped in, my work is preventing me from spending the time that you need to do this stuff properly, havent been able to sleep this morning so have had a good luck at the cards....for what its worth ... chester is always a cracking meet, finding winners can be a bit tricky-weather over the next day or three is due to dump a lot of wet stuff on the roodee- be careful -best two jockeys Norton and Egan -are both riding fancied runners for david evans in the first--my preferance is for John Egan's mount.Cherio Sweetie, and in the 4 10 at Brighton -Dwyer and Muir have Fleckerl primed. I like Egypt Mill Prince in the 6 00 Wor to continue tom george's excellent run , and i'm sure Dai Burchell has Acapulco Bay ready for the 8 30 ! Good luck all......
Anton Dolin 8.00 Worcester @ 8/1 EW. Has shown his liking for this course and distance before. Also his trainer has a fine record here. The only negative is the lack of a recent run. Borderlescott Chester 4.25 @ 7/1. Can't let this old boy go unbacked. Ran a blinder on seasonal debut before getting mugged by a nostril. Well drawn and rattling good ground which he loves. Hopefully rain will stay away.
Chester 3.15 CASPIAN PRINCE 9/2 this horse bolted up in a competitive 5f race at Epsom a couple of weeks ago. from the plum draw here at Chester I can see him take an early lead and not be caught.
Afternoon all. I agree with Steveo on Caspian prince. Have put it in a patent with Anglo irish in the 5.00 (really taken by him and looks very good i think) and Dreams of Glory in the 5-20 at brighton who usually goes well after a lengthy absence. Good luck everyone.
Blew the start and had to give up the rail and from them was never gonna win, winner looked very comfortable!! One to keppp an eye on
Highland cathedral could be ready to take the honours today and an ew friendly price The westwallian at brighton gets my thumbs up double figures ew the worcs card looks nice later and take of shocs with maloney on board could and should stake a massive claim at around 16s good luck all who play
5.00 Chester - Outsiders worth noting are Lady Yeats, who won well last time out at Redcar over 10 furlongs, and the Mark Johnson trained duo of Swivel (steps up in trip from a mile, been in good form this season except on it's last run) and Maxie T (another one well beaten last time out but won it's previous two starts). But the John Gosden trained Anglo Irish should go off as favourite (won it's last two starts).
I have never learned anything I didn't know or heard anything to make my ears prick up from ' Fitzy' , I would rather have Willie Carson, Rishi and John Parrott and his huge bookmaker friend not only present the racing but also every programme on my TV than have to listen to Fitzy. It's the saying of the bleeding obvious in a tone that would normally only be used to impart something of significance, Importance or unexpected to the listener.
