Southampton target Diego is attracting interest from Turkish heavyweights Besiktas.
The Brazilian midfielder joined Atletico Madrid on a six-month deal back in January and has played a part in their march to the top of La Liga and the Champions League final.
It is not yet clear if he will remain at the Vicente Calderon, but Besiktas are keen to add him to their ranks.
Sources in Turkey claim they are willing to offer the 29-year-old a salary worth £3.3m a season, but their interest also hinges upon whether they qualify for next season's Champions League.
Besiktas are currently one point adrift of a Champions League qualifying spot with two games of the domestic season remaining.
Southampton monitored his form earlier this season ahead of a possible free transfer move in the summer.

Heard. As I have said before tho, I only know when we are talking to players etc, I will never know when and if we sign them.

Well at least there is substance to the paper stories then. He is a good keeper.

However, I really don't see Schmeichel moving anywhere. He is loved at Leicester, and would play every week in the PL.

Why hasn't he signed a contract yet then? You've got to assume they've been talking to him for a long time rather than leaving it until the last minute.

Not denying that he wouldn't talk to other clubs, but why leave when you are guaranteed PL football every week. Saints won't offer him that.

More chance of getting to europe next season though and smaller possibility of fighting relegation. *touch wood*

Don't think so. We won't leave out Artur surely? I know it would be great to have a second keeper who is decent, but for his own career, he should stay with Leicester.

I think Boruc will be back up at most if we get the players we want

I would pick him over Artur in a heartbeat. Consistent, athletic, rarely hurt, great shot stopper.

Incidentally, his dad joined United at about his age now.

I think Kasper and Artur are on pretty much the same level (as most keepers seem to be these days..!) but Kasper has far longer left in him.

Just for the record, I really like Schmeichel and are not saying signing him would be a bad thing, just for him personally, unless of course like you guys say he is guaranteed a starting place here, that he would be better off staying at Leicester. They are a good club.

Leicester fans would be seriously pissed off if Schmeichal left them for us. They would regard us as not much higher than they are....not true, but how they would see it.

Yes I think you are right about that Fran. Unless Schmeichel moved to Man United or a another 'big' club like that then I don't think they would be too impressed by him.

I remember his father winding up a few Saints fans by suggesting Lallana & Shaw need to move to a bigger club so would be interesting if his son arrived. Pleased we're in the hunt for him as he is on a free transfer. We know our transfer budget is not going to be all that this summer if we keep who we want to keep.
So players such as Diego & Schmeichel are what we need to go for.
