Villa are a team you can never completely trust not to pull off a worldy performance

Aye but we'll play a 9-1-0 formation and then Pardew will blame the length of the grass for the multiple hat tricks.
If you think you have a poor defence take a close look at ours.
Our flanks are our weakness and we are woeful at defending set pieces.
We are a shot team and most of the lads are on the beach right now.

Ignore Smug lads. He's got the record for multiple board bans and has a comical weekly meltdown which provides glorious entertainment I can assure you.

    You will win handsomely.
    I'm going 6-3.

I see you've met that bipolar troll Smug.
The lad is a basket case.

Have any of you lads bought any Toon tickets? A few of my uni mates sold theirs for £250 a pop like.

There's a few of my mates from down the local done the same.
To be honest thought they would have probably sold them for £50 or face value given the performances we have put in lately.

Anfield should be rocking I reckon as at worst... CL football beckons and LFC will be regional top dogs... something at least we can lay claim to also.

You weren't saying that when Newcastle were coming on to have a bitch, along with Liverpool, at Sunderland fans.

As I've said, bye and have a nice match <ok>

How come i like these north east f'rs really?

be it Sunderland or Newcastle (but not miserable middlesboro) i seem to like their support of their teams and their clubs generally?

I dunno perhaps its the big capacity and fans who love their sides that see. Its a shame they are totally shambolically run mind ;)

I would far rather a north east club to any of the midland clubs.

and then to add to the poit south coast clubs seem to be quite ok too..why is this?

I think that I can relate to the Geordies and Mackems as supporters of their club in a way that I find hard to with clubs from other areas and particularly London clubs. There still are cultural echoes surrounding both of their clubs and Liverpool and Everton which promotes mutual respect as well as rivalry.

They hate each other with a passion and there's regularly trouble between them on a matchday. I had the misfortune of witnessing it first hand years ago at Roker. They're both old school footballing areas, but that's where the comparison ends imo.

    Kind words fellas. <cheers>
My personal spin on the question is that there are a hell of a lot of similarities between our two regions going back centuries from industrial and social similarities to the fact that large parts of our city have been deprived on many levels.
At the heart of it all though is the fact that we may not all be rolling in money like some of our Southern cousins but we'll make do and get by on what we do have... and more importantly do it all with a bit of humour along the way whether we be Geordie, Mackem, Scouse or Manc .

I think trouble seems to gravitate to all derbies mate.
I've been to a Prague, Glasgow, Madrid and Brummie derby in my time and it's the same at all of them. A small minority spoiling it for the rest.
My old man is a Mackem, as is my Brother and Uncle but we just rip the piss up to the game... shortly after the game... then just get pissed up and have a laugh.
This is how it should be IMHO.

Neither of our clubs can truly say that they welcome visits from United (except this season when there were easy points to garner!). There is no love lost there.

I did say that I felt it was the echoes of a predominantly working class background and the links with the sea that probably help maintain the relationship. I always remembered Merseyside derbies as intense passionate affairs that ultimately ended up with all of us in the pub. But sadly that too seems a thing of the past!

I agree mate. We come back to the same old 'every club has their idiots' maxim - as Albert also referred to.

i think dave is right, it prob is a case of being able to relate.. form the outside of the sunderland newcastle rivalry i can park any issues that exist between the two and relate to either.

and yes everton too... but i would say tha someone like west bro or villa. i don't relate to at all but i don't know that thats class based... perhaps the clubs in the north east just sing less offensive songs.. i dunno
