What would you be happy with or expect next season? As Brendan says, we are ahead of schedule. While we are not quite rebuilding or in transition, we are still building from a domestic only squad to one competing in Europe too. For me this means consolidating Champions League next season is more of a priority than challenging for the league. Of course the two are closely related but if we don't challenge for the title for quite as long as this year but are comfortably qualified for CL then I would take that. If we build a deeper squad needed for Europe, there are not enough CL games to justify a "second XI" so we can also take the domestic cups more seriously and that is where we might be most successful during our building season. I think it will be a great season if we can get: 3rd place Quarter-final CL Win a domestic cup
for me its to get top 4 finish (should be the priority everything else for now is a bonus) and a good run in the cups, maybe win one.
The last time we finished second, we then collapsed to 7th and sacked our manager. (Sorry to be pessimistic!) So we must not rest on our laurels. We have to strengthen, even in attack. 1. I hope and expect us to stay in the top 4. I would be elated with another top 3 finish 2. as for CL, we are in a terrible pot and could have a group of death. I would love us to get out of the group stages if we can 3. I'm not fussed about the league cup at all, an FA cup run would be nice though but the CL (if we're still in it then) and league come first
For united. Top 4 Win a cup. The fa cup preferably. Play good football. Liverpool. 5th. Possibly nick 4th. 3rd in Champions League group/Europa League 1/4 final. Out early in both cups.
That's quite some expectation. I think to be brutally honest a Europa League spot will be what you get. Would you want LVG sacked if that's all he could do in the first season (remembering how terrible your squad is)?
Not sure. If thats the case it seems a little unfair as effectively theres no difference in finishing 3rd or 4th. I would say next season you will be more where you expected to be 2 seasons ago. Battling for top 4 and giving yourselves a chance. A step backwarss from this season but a step forward in the grand scheme.
as for the poll, depth will come from strengthening. If we always have in mind buying players that slot straight into our starting team, then we will end up with real strength in depth. Rather than buying cheapo filler players that cost us more in the long run
OK the 3rd place teams still go to the Europa which I think is harsh on the teams trying to take it seriously as a route to qualify for the CL, e.g. Man Utd in 2 seasons time Also it seems pointless to offer a CL place for winning it when the winner might have already dropped out of the CL which means they should be able to qualify again anyway. I am fine with a small step back in the PL for next season. Being able to say we only came 3rd is a nice position
Why are we discussing manure? Since when did mid-table teams count? I hope the see attractive flowing football from Liverpool next season I hope to see us bring in quality young (er) players to strengthen our first 11 and squad. I hope to see us qualify from our CL group I expect us to challenge again for the title I expect us to add more of a note of maturity to our play based upon our experiences this season. As for any other Premiership team - I don't give a ****!
this season is effectively over. something might still occur but its one game left for us. in short: REALITY CHECK!!!! this was a unique season and trust me no matter what the hopes the REALITY is a fight between LFC and Arsenal and Utd (who will both spend hugely if they've any sense) and throw in the spuds and the bitters too boot. Cheslea and city can spend what they like every year so the reality is we are in for a hell of a fight to replicate this year's min 3rd place given the relative strength of what we have. so that sets the stall out. we will have to fight like dogs to get 4th again.... In the CL we are likely to be 3rd seeds at best so nobody should expect anything other than another underdog fight for 2nd in a group and then europa. We can hope but not expect. To compete for the title will require a step change in quality.... f sake we got 3 class forwards and aspas and moses. we've no depth at all to come in so while we played for 11 games with nearly no change or injury we got a nice run and did well.. great... can't depend on the same run cos before xmas and right after we were running just on pace for 4th... barely in reality everton can get a max of 72 point... yet again 70 point +/- 3 holds up... we might do that next year we might do better but we all need to get real. we are up against it. we need 4/5 players in and replace the lesser players. be those guys hot young players or big money signing... either way we cannot carry passengers like aspas who was laying down vitually on the bench and alberto and moses.. and cissohko there is huge work to do!
something might still occur but its one game left for us. in short: REALITY CHECK!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------- how so? still top of the league, yes we have to hope city **** up, but until its over we can have one last dream you never know, footie is a funny old game, reality check in big letters is uncalled for in my opinion though.
MITO, you have no more idea as to what is going to happen now or over the Summer than any of us! Your REALITY is no more than you thoughts and perceptions. They are no more valid than any other. So give over with the REALITY thing. Ta
Haven't we got enough things to talk about Liverpool without worrying about utd or any other teams expectations for next season. I celebrate today. We are top of the league. Whatever happens at the weekend, we are top of the league today and I would like this to be my end of season celebration. Stresses and tensions released today. Thanks to the team for a great ride I have been fortunate to be present for many league wins and I want to take from this season the rekindled memories while singing 'we're gonna win the league' - only winning the thing could push that ecstatic crowd feeling up a notch. Next season, more of the same please. Great CL nights to be thrown in too.
We forget too quickly just how wonderful this season has been. The last 2 matches have been lows but how about the other 35? Like you, I've really enjoyed this ride and been excited by what I've seen. We never were favourites for the tile until we had completed an almost impossible run of victories. Then, even the bookies became Liverpool supporters - now there's a thing! We'll see on Sunday where we finish but it's been GREAT getting there. COYR YNWA
This Just to be part of the ****ing thing is going to be great! It's been too long, the CL draws etc is a buzz in itself never-mind the actual nights! When fit we have a diamond with 2 strikers that is lethal, bit of depth in their, the return of Enrique if he is still alive?? & obviously get some better defenders in and I'm sure when can be right up there again, why not?
I would have thought that we'd have learned to laugh off all the media bollox after the season we are having and accept that we have a very good team capable fo challenging for pretty much everything. All this stronger league bollox is just that. We'll also be stronger and have better options from the bench. We have some very good loan players back plus we will buy, our squad will be very strong next season. Our expectations should be to challenge on all fronts.
you seem to want to believe one thing and i want another. i'll lay money on mine is reality based though
