    Morning Everyone,

Cellino has given the biggest hint so far, that he plans to keep McDermott, well for the time being anyway.

“I must have a coach who is very good on the field and helps me manage by choosing players,” he told the BBC.

“If it’s McDermott or anyone else – that we must not be insecure. We are engaged for two years of his contract and that’s important because we can’t waste money. I can’t just change manager and bring another cost to the club.”

“Leeds United fans don’t give up. Leeds United’s manager won’t give up because of that,” he told the Yorkshire Post.

“The things that have gone on here make you a better manager because you know you can tough situations out. I’ve certainly had to tough this out but there was never any doubt in my mind that I would tough it out and try to get us to the next stage. The next stage is the summer and building again. I might need to draw breath and find a bit of time but then I want to get on with things again.”

Michael Brown wants to continue to play, whether that's at Elland Road, or elsewhere.

"For the last few years I've been here to help, to play some games - whether that's 20 minutes here or there - and to help around the dressing room. That's what I think I've done and I hope I still show a good example. Long may it continue.

"But I want to carry on playing. I don't want to just step down and do some coaching. I want to play another year, maybe with a bit of coaching on top. If it's here then we'll have that conversation but I'm not sure what direction the club are going in at the moment. Only time will tell.

    Does Brown deserve another contract?

So good morning Elland from a sunny Bardsey
I think that MC is wise to stay with BM as it would cost to much to get rid of him better getting rid of Hunt etc
Needs to sit back and take stock but I,m excited by his stance on getting good young players in such as David Bentley Jamie Murphy Guedetti would do for a start
Does Brown deserve another contract my heart says yes on a low wage but my head says no hes too old

Morning Mike, I'd like to see Brown in some kind of coaching capacity.

morning all from a unbelievably sunny Wakey

MCDonut staying would be good for us to bring in new young talent and hopefully the 2 of them get the cream of the crop. I was going make a rising joke but decided against it.

As for Brown a a new contract I've my feeling abundantly clear but I'll say it one more tine NO!!!

Morning all. Wolves, I'll try and make this clear to you. Until someone can find a genuine replacement for our best DM, Brown, he'll be staying. Austin is a box to box midfielder, not a core DM. Who have we got that plays as a DM with the sole aim of breaking up opposition attacks. He isn't the quickest player we've got, but he's the best we've got at what he's in the team to do.

I don't like Brown and never have. Agreed he gives 100% but 100 % of what? Running around heavy ott tackles looking like he is minutes away from another sending off? Can't agree with coaching either, I would not want any young talent coming through believing that is the style we should be playing. How many balls does he win fairly compared to free kicks given away? If we can't find a better younger replacement then it is pretty sad and a reflection of how bad we are

Morning all. What did Cellino say the other night about our players, they train too little and drink too much or something like that. Not too late for myself and Shaks to try out for the first team so

    Morning all <ok>

Good game of Footy last night. Pullis has really shown what a decent manager can do to a struggling club and probably destroyed the bin dippers title hopes. Mind you, he took over from Ian Holloway so anything would resemble progress.

Brown- No thanks. Agree with ristac although I worry we will extend because we cant find someone in that mould.

Theres no place for hatchet men in the game anymore sadly.

Boggers there has to be a decent replacement for Brown, all we have to do is look. There WILL BE a younger better version of Brown some where in the world.

Ristac I agree, I don't want him near a coaching role at the club, send him back to Sheff Utd.

I'm a fan of Brown, and I do think there is more to his game than people realise, but unfortunately he's 37 and there are younger, better players out there.

Boggers, he may be the only natural DM in the squad, but the fact remains that if we had midfielders who were competent at retaining possession, we wouldn't require a specialist DM because we wouldn't be under so much pressure all the time. If we sell off all the CM players we've accumulated, bar Mowatt and Murphy, and bring in one genuine quality enforcer to play alongside either one of them, I'd see that as progress.

I agree entirely with your sentiment Wolves. Brown is 36/37. He is seriously fit (Mowatt take note!!). He seems to have got out of the habit of diving in and getting bookd all the time. So until we do unearth a natural replacement, Brown will have to continue to be part of the squad. What was slightly worrying was that he was starting every game towards the end of the season. I agree, surely we can find a younger model DM somewhere in the world.

Pugh would do a better DM job then Brown. Unfortunatley I think they both should go.

    Morning all,

Got to leap in here about Brown. For me, he's a deffo for another year. Don't expect him to play every game, but will look forward to each one with glee.

Age? What about it? He's the fittest midfielder we've got. And he's no slouch either. Wish I could say the same for the likes of Mowatt.

No place in the game for hatchet men? Think back to Saturday. A young gentleman called Hughes met our Brownie, and for the first time, he failed to rip us to pieces. Meek as a lamb. No space. Brown all over him. No-one notice this? It's what he does. Not only does he win the ball back, he stifles the opposition. runs more than anyone else in the team. Created quite a bit too. Certainly more than Austin or Murphy. Oh, and had the best shot of the game on Saturday too!

Did I notice anyone mention consistency? Nope. Probably because he's been Mr Consistency since he pulled on a white shirt. Wish I could say the same for the rest of the team.

Young pretender? Hope there's one about, but the finished article will be expensive, so I don't see it happening. A promising youngster? Nah, I remember Clayton. Mr Hot & Cold. Couldn't believe it when we got money for him. Still goes missing, from what I can see. That's what youth generally brings you in midfield.

Good shout all round Jock. Fair point Kiwi. The problem we have is that our current midfield aren't that clever at retaining possession. Maybe next season will be different. For one thing, both Murphy and Mowatt have had a whole season in the championship, as has Smith. New to all three of them. So who knows how they'll come back next season.

Can't agree with your sentiment Bucks that Pugh would do a better job than Brown as a DM. Pugh's a good utility player. But as a core DM, not so sure.

He's great in a DM role. Well, as great as he can be <ok>

And I'm sticking to my guns on this one, no place for a hachet man anymore. Which is a shame as its my favourite position to play or watch. Its just too risky and tackles are pretty much non contact now or your walking

Good point made though Jock about Hughes being outshadowed. That was obviously Browns role, and thats man to man rather than hatchet in my book.

The days of big Jack smashing someone in the first 5 minutes to let them know what they are up against or Batty diving in and putting his all on the line have sadly passed for a more passive poncy game.

maybe we should look at one of the 'weaker' leagues or a country that you don't really associate with football there must be a young hungry DM who wants to make a name for himself in Europe and will play out of his skin week in week out.

    I agree with WJ.

He has been consistant, doesn't whine or whinge with 20 mins here and there, and covers every blade of grass.

I was there Jock and noticed it. I also mentioned on another thread that Hughes didn't know what the hell had hit him in Saturday. He **** himself every time Brown was near him.

He's definitely worth another year and fitness isn't an issue with him. At no point on Saturday did he show signs of tiredness, and he won't be here to play 50 games a season. There are others that should be doing that.
