Copy and paste from the fail.JIMMY Bullard has indicated he is willing to end his nightmare stay at Hull City – if a suitable pay-off can be agreed. Unable to see a way back under Nigel Pearson, the 32-year-old midfielder has made it clear to City officials he wants to scrap the final two years of his contract in exchange for a final lump sum payment. The Mail understands that Bullard wants a seven-figure sum for the Tigers to buy out the remainder of his deal. Against a possible outlay of almost £5m over the next two years of a £45,000-a-week deal, it is a tempting proposition for City's board to contemplate. The ball is now in City's court as Bullard looks to manufacture a fresh start, but it remains to be seen if owner Assem Allam will agree to the proposal. Bullard would not be short of options if he agreed to cut all ties with the Tigers. QPR boss Neil Warnock is one admirer to have sounded out the play-maker over a possible move back to the Premier League. A season-long loan from City was one option touted, but a permanent switch would be on the cards if Bullard was to be freed from the final two years of his deal. Now just 12 days away from the start pre-season, Bullard's future again threatens to become an unwanted distraction for Pearson. Twelve months ago, the former Fulham star was not considered for any pre-season friendlies as City looked to off-load their top earner in the wake of a top-flight relegation. That was extended into the opening month of the Championship campaign and although Bullard eventually won his place in the City side in September, Pearson struggled to accommodate him in his plans. A loan move to Ipswich in January underlined as much and, with Pearson planning ahead, it is unfeasible that Bullard has any future at City. The only stumbling block to an inevitable exit would be a reluctance from the City board to buy Bullard out of the deal. Allam has previously suggested he would no longer be willing to subsidise a player plying his trade elsewhere. But to see up to £4m of the £5m wage commitments due to Bullard scrapped has an obvious appeal. With frustrations in the transfer market pointing towards a tight budget this summer, City are desperate to off-load Bullard and fellow high earners such as Seyi Olofinjana, Paul McShane and Kamel Ghilas. All four spent part or all of last season out on loan but are currently scheduled to return to pre-season with the Tigers on July 4. CITY'S opening day fixture with Blackpool at the KC Stadium has been moved forward by a day for coverage on Sky Sports. Originally scheduled for Saturday 6 August, the visit of Ian Holloway's men will take place on Friday 5 August (7.45pm).
I just hope he goes. I don't hate Jimmy Bullard, I'm really sorry it didn't work out because if it had, I think we'd be an established PL club now. I am sick of the saga though and I'm sick of the pressure this ridiculous deal has put on everything. I don't blame Jimmy one bit for the deal that was negotiated. I have lost any respect I had for him over the past year though. I believed in "Soccer AM Jimmy". I believed he was a guy who dropped out of football, worked hard to get back and loved the game more than the money. I believed what he told me. It was bullshit.
Surely we have made him available for a free transfer so why would he need paying off to find a club. He wants his contract paying up in full then going to a new team and getting a new contract so he will end up better off money wise. As said you can't blame him for the idiotic deal offered to him, anyone with his injury record would bite your hand off for a deal like that, but he can't say its not about the money because it clearly is.
The Jimmy Bullard saga rolls on. We have all had enough of it. Jimmy is a very talented footballer when fit. He can't be publicly flogged for accepting the ridiculous contract that was offered to him by the Chuckle brothers a few years ago. He has had many chances to depart the club. However, one thing Jimmy has in abundance is greed. He says he wants a seven figure sum to leave the club. How does **** OFF sound. Thats seven figures. Then we can all move on.
Hurrah, another Bullard thread. Can't see Assem Allam going for a 7 figure pay-off. Free transfer yes, but not a pay-off. He's had enough money out of us. He'll be wanting a Loyalty Bonus next.
Exactly john. Why give him a pay off now? We might as well wait until window closes then pay him off. I am certain that someone will come in for him, any deal will be scuppered by him and his wage demands. Sod him
Think we missed our chance if the rumours where true..to stick a reporter in the weir bar any night of the week and sack him with evidence for gross misconduct!.
If we could could get rid of him for £1m, we should do, but I suspect he won't accept only 20% of his contract being paid off. He can easily get a new contract on about £20k a week, but that would mean him playing for another four years to get the same money.
The fact is that we cannot afford to offer transfer targets a good enough wage to tempt them to come to us, because the like of Bullard is taking up a huge part of our wage bill. Take him out of that and we will start getting a decent squad together. Last week Jimmy was all about playing football, now he's after the money again as he always has been. Quality player when he plays, its a real shame we can't afford him!
If Mr Allam has got 60 million quid to spare for a new 35,000 seater stadium to house our 20,000 home fans then wouldn't it be better to spend 4-5 million of it to pay Jimmy off and then bring in the 4-5 players we need to strengthen the team to a play-off calibre level.
The problem also with paying Jimmy off is you set a precedent. Olofinjana, Kilbane, McShane and Ghilas could all ask for a pay off too. Wouldn't necessarily be granted, but dangerous territory. I'd rather just offer him on a free on the proviso they pick up the remainder of his contract. On a personal note I hate the long haired pikey piece of ****. Wish he'd just **** off and get crippled at another club.
Bullard definitely doesn't want to play for us so the sooner we all move on the better. Pay him as little as we can but do it quickly so we can get back to the main priority which is strengthening the team. If we can pay him under £1 million and therefore save £4 million over the next two years we should have more buying power and maybe we can start looking at players like Danns again.
There is no way a 7 figure pay-off would be a mere £1m. I reckon he's after at least £3m. That way he can go to QPR on £25k pw for two years and be up on the deal. Agree with OLM, if it was only £1m I'd snap his hand off! Then once he'd signed the release I'd kneecap him (and snap his other hand off).
He's a footballing mercenary. I think I actually hate because of his "cheeky chappie" media persona which is certainly not true to life. We were naive under the old regime and my god are we paying for it - what other club (manager/chairman/owner) would have taken a player who failed thew medical on over double what his current earnings had been? It's mind boggling when you think of it in context. What I hate about this is he will walk into a 3 year contract on £25-£30k a week with QPR and should guarantee £20k a week at Norwich. Hopefully if he'll take £1m then good riddance, looking forward to the reception on his return.
Brownie and Duffen screwed us to hell with this desperation purchase, of course he is entitled to collect his wages but that doesn't stop him being a mercenary of the worst kind, he's got enough cash out of us as it is.
For ****'s sake shall we leave it alone now? Everybody's had their two pennies worth about how awful Bullard is. He's a footballer, he's paid to kick footballs. He's ****ing good at it and he gets paid a lot because of that. We might be better off without him but that doesn't mean he's a mercenary just because the chuffing HDM say "He might settle for a pay-off." Which translates as "We know nothing more than you do." In paper talk. Every player who has ever played with him says he is a nice bloke and the 'cheeky chappie' image is indeed true to life. Just because we don't like what we're paying him, doesn't mean everything about him has to come down to him being a ****. If anything, the club've been more ****ish by making it so publicly clear that we don't want him. If the management team decide we're better off spending his wages on 3 or 4 less talented players then fine, I trust them. But it doesn't mean he has to be public enemy number 1.
It wasn't a desperation purchase. That's what makes it even worse. We were sat in the top half of the Premier League and budgeted a £5m transfer fee and £45,000 a week wages. We were in an excellent position to negotiate. As soon as Jimmy failed his medical, they should've demanded that he lower his inital wage demand, agree to a relegation clause and that the contract become a 3 year deal with an option for a fourth. If he said no, we should've gone on to plan B. It was lunacy.
