I mean Christ our CBs instinct is to backtrack to the six yard box when we are two or three up in games, what the hell would happen if we started actually inviting people on to them...more bodies, more confusion more fear in the box....more bad decision making ..... Now separating how good a team we've been in getting where we are today from cold hard appraisal of what the difference between winning the title and losing it...(even if city somehow **** up and give us it) we''ll not get away with bring so poor at the back again for an entire season. So as BR says he wants intelligent players....well he needs to go find them in defensive positions....
Totally. Skrtel and Sakho seem to me now a horrible pairing - both are reactive defenders, both are anxious sorts, both are mute in true leadership. Sakho may have legginess (or stamina) issues, which add to Gerrard's. Johnson and Flano, as subpar as they may be for a championship side, have a lot on their plate when "wingers" don't even track back, which makes their work even more tenuous. I don't buy the story of some that... if we defended better we'd win less games.... it's cuckoo bullshit. If we defended better, we'd score say 0.3 goals less per game, while letting in 0.6 less per game. And thus: win more!

There's a difference between defending better and being defensive in overall style... I think these defenders couldn't defend better without the entire team becoming very defensive in style and that yes that would effect the amount of goals we scored yet I believe these defenders would still make enough mistakes to turn wins into losses because it would require the entire team to sit deeper... Better defenders that have the brains and the athleticism for our style of play would defend better yet allow us to maintain an overall attacking style....I dont think you have to have one without the other....
Its no laughing matter how terrible these players are. Imagine kids looking up to them. Set us back 4 or 1200 years football wise. Young certainly looks like hes kicking around a stump with gangrene infected feet unsure if what hes doing actually counts as anything. Most of the goals we let in happen while: 1) we sit back half-arsed or arse-f**ked. Correction: Sit back with total team individual commitment and calmness. 2) we are stretched like palm trees in the sahara. Correction: Play in a compact formation, press, track, focus. I fail to see how the cuckoo ones see the above measures as resulting in us winning less.
