Which do you consider more successful? Some Pool fans have claimed the former is more successful? I know it's easy for us to say the latter is more successful because that's the most probable outcome for Arsenal, but overall, I think 4th and the FA Cup is more successful than finishing 2nd. 4th and the Carling Cup is debatable, but the FA Cup is not some Mickey Mouse trophy. At the end of the day, 4th still gets us into Europe albeit through a play-off which we have to play, but assuming we qualify, that means we get into Europe just like 2nd place does for you, AND we got the FA Cup as well, so even logically looking at it, the latter of 4th and a cup is more successful, because you get what 2nd place affords you, ON TOP of a trophy. Personally, I'd always prefer 2nd, 3rd, or 4th and an FA Cup over 4th, 3rd, or 2nd and no trophy, if I could choose.
I'd say FA Cup. Important to get that trophy drought talk off our heads and have something to build on for next season. Though we actually need to win it first

2nd is more frustrating than anything else, because it's close but not close enough. Overall, I'd take the trophy and fourth over 2nd and no silverware.
Depends. LFC fans, myself included, have seen us win silverware fairly recently, but top four has eluded us for a bit longer. Understandably, then, we want Europe more than a tin pot at the moment. Therefore, 2/3 place is better, for us. If I was an Arsenal fan, 4th (pretty much nailed on!) and a cup final for an elusive trophy would be far more preferable.
For us, finishing in the top 4 without winning anything for so many years has gotten boring. So winning a trophy > finishing top 4 right now. Can understand for Pool fans it would be different and that getting back into Europe is a big achievement.
Guys do you think the media are going to be reminding us of Liverpool's 9 years without a trophy next season ? or will they spend there time banging on about us only winning 1 trophy in 10 seasons (assuming we do win the fa cup )
they won league cup 3 years ago. Goons FA Cup + 4th place trophy would be great for you. More importantly FA cup will help you to run us & city close, next season.
Trophies will always be more important than positions as that's what football is about. However, for each club what they get would be more important. You guys have been in the CL for god knows how long, a trophy is what you haven't had in a while and therefor need one to get that monkey off your back as they say. For us, we've not been in the CL for 4 years, we needed to get back into it for the financial part and to help keep our top player. This season, everyone of our fans would have taken CL football and no cup. If we then maintain a position in the top 4 over the next 2 or 3 years then we would expect a trophy and need one as we'll be getting the same question as you guys have "when was the last time you won a trophy blah blah". Different clubs, different circumstances so hard to compare who needed what more, but I'm pretty sure both of us will be very happy with our seasons if we finish 2nd (and god forbid we win it!) and you guys finish 4th and the FA Cup. Saying all that, I'll be cheering on Hull for the cup just because I think every neutral will be #underdog
